The trailer for Berserk and the Band of the Hawk has hit the net. For the uninitiated, Berserk is a rather darker manga than Naruto or Dragonball Z. Guts, the main character, is the opposite of the optimistic heroes of more famous manga and anime.

This is not a happy tale…

Set in a dark and war torn  world, that only gets darker, Guts’ story is not for the faint of heart. Guts is born after his mother died and things get worse from then. This post can be read by kids so we’ll not go into detail about his childhood. Therefore, we’ll simply say that it was ‘grim’. Guts ended up joining ‘The Band of the Hawk.’ This group gave Guts the friendship he’d always needed. And this gave Guts time to grow as a person before things all went wrong again. Berserk is a perfect choice for a Dynasty Warriors style game.

First of all, while far from the first franchise to join forces with Dynasty Warriors, it seems a match made in heaven. Futhermore, the 120 mins of cinematic footage makes it clear they’re trying to do the story justice. It’s unknown how much of the story will be covered as the series is 27 years old and still going. The title of the game is also worth noting as it’s Berserk and the Band of the Hawk instead of Guts.

The series isn’t very well known in the West, so this might be the reason for the change. Guts isn’t as recognizable here as Naruto or Luffy. Band of the Hawk is their chance to become a bit more mainstream in the west, so they might be trying to avoid confusion. Either way, Band of the Hawk is following Hyrule Warriors and Dragon Quest Heroes so it needs to be good.
