In a brand new teaser for the upcoming Berserk anime, fans got to see their first brief look at what the series will look like. They were also given a rough date for the final product – sometime in 2016. The video debuted today at NBC Universal’s winter Comic Market 89 booth in Tokyo, Japan. It also began streaming on the official website.
The manga has been around since 1989, and has a dark fantasy setting of medieval Europe. Centered around two mercenary characters, Guts and Griffith, the manga has also had one TV anime series adaptation and a trilogy of movies.
The new anime will focus on Guts in his “Black Swordsman” story arc, which has not been covered much in any of the other animated series. Kentero Miura, the creator, has also put the manga on hiatus for a while. Berserk has been published intermittently over the years as Miura works on other projects, so this announcement does not come as much of a surprise to fans.

Berserk‘s new video shows very little, other than Guts slinging around his formidable sword. However, it does show how the project will be designed – in a CGI style medium. This is certainly a more realistic approach to the dark series, but one that will probably turn out great for everyone involved.
