We can all agree that the anime industry has brought us some bangers this year. We’ve seen some of the best arcs in My Hero Academia, we finally saw Mushoku Tensei return, and Solo Leveling got a proper adaptation. And while the Summer 2024 season brings amazing shows, all anime fans should set their sights on the Fall season of this year. We’re getting long-awaited adaptations, the remakes of some of the most beloved shows back in the 90s, and much more. So, without further ado, here are 10 anime shows you should watch in the Fall of 2024.
(Updated on August 2, 2024 – Added anime shows for the Fall 2024 season).
10. Uzumaki
It’s time to delve into the creepy works of Junji Ito and finally see a proper adaptation of Uzumaki (not to be confused with the ninja). Manga readers already know how big of a deal this is. But if you’re an anime-only type of person, allow me to explain. Junji Ito’s works are among some of the eeriest and creepiest out there, with only a few getting a TV adaptation. Uzumaki is a fantastic manga series that, while short, is extremely scary, disturbing, and something we can’t wait to watch.
9. Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II
Tired of Kirito and Asuna’s video game romance? Well, then, it’s time to return to one of the series’ most beloved games: Gun Gale Online. Staying away from the sword-fighting, world-saving, and other virtual shenanigans, we finally return to one of SAO‘s side stories. Gun Gale Online II is the continuation of the 2018 anime. It took a while to get here, but it is nice to see this project wasn’t forgotten. A-1 Pictures is taking the reins of the new episodes, so we’re hopeful for that.
8. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Conflict
Bleach is making huge splashes in the world of video games and in anime. Bandai Namco is finally taking this franchise for a spin, and on the anime side, we’re getting a new arc. Fans have loved the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, and it’s about to get better. I will not spoil things for anime-only people, but you’re in for something huge. If you haven’t watched the show, there’s a time to binge its episodes in preparation for these new episodes.
7. Shangri-La Frontier Season 2
One of the most pleasant surprises of the past months, in terms of anime, was Shangri-La Frontier, which is returning in the Fall of 2024. With a fantastic first season packed with 25 episodes, fans wanted more. Thankfully, thankfully, Sunraku and friends will return to this immersive MMO. There’s plenty of time to catch up, so make sure to watch all the season before joining these gamers in a new adventure.
6. Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions Season 2
Moving to yet another second season, we have the return of one of the best detectives out there: Ron Kamonohashi. With the cliffhanger of the first season, fans wanted to see more of this strange detective duo. Thankfully, Ron and Toto’s adventures aren’t over, as there are more mysteries to solve and more brown sugar to drink. Hopefully, the story will move on at a faster pace because, while I loved the cases of the first season, I really want to see where the overall plot is going.
5. I’ll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History
Moving on to new shows, you know I couldn’t pass the chance of recommending a Villainess anime for Fall 2024, and that’s what I’ll do. If you miss your dose of Yumiella or Rae Taylor, wait until you meet the new villainess. In the real world, an unnamed woman gets run over by everyone’s favorite Isekai worker, truck-kun, and she reincarnates as Alicia, the baddie of her favorite otome game. Being an expert in this game when she was alive, she now has one goal after reincarnating: to go down as the best villainess of all time. It’s a tale as old as time but one we can’t get enough of.
4. You Are Ms. Servant
It’s unsure of this anime waited until the members of Victoria Housekeeping Co. appeared in ZZZ, but if it did, it was a genius move. However, the protagonist of this anime can’t clean a house to save her life. While she has the looks of a maid, she’s a professional assassin, which is pretty much what Yor Forger is. She can’t cook, but she can kick some 2D butts. If you want an action-packed show with slice-of-life on the side, you must add this to your list.
3. Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3
While waiting for the third season of Re: ZERO, I got a new house and a car and even got married. Yes, that’s how long we’ve been waiting for it. I know it’s been four years only, but for some reason, it felt like an eternity. Well, the wait is finally over, and we’re finally returning to this gut-wrenching show alongside Subaru, Emilia, and more. If you want to watch one of the best Isekai of the past decade, you can’t miss this one. Truly, it is one of the best shows of this genre and a must-watch for Isekai fans.
2. Dandadan
What do you get when you combine a boy who believes in UFOs but not in ghosts and a girl who believes in ghosts but not in UFOs? A complete mess. In a good way, though. It goes without saying that this is one of the most anticipated anime of the year, even in past years. So, if you want an adventure full of supernatural shenanigans, fan service, and excellent animation, you can’t miss Dandadan.
1. Ranma ½ (2024)
One of my fondest memories was returning from a hard day at school just to plop myself in front of my TV and watch Ranma before dinner. Those were the days. Imagine everyone’s surprise when we learned about this getting a proper remake with the original cast but with MAPPA Studio at the helm. Everyone lost their minds, myself included. With how great many remakes have been lately, it is nice to see one of the most legendary shows getting a proper one this year.
