Players can pick from almost 20 characters in Granblue Fantasy: Relink, but only a few of them are the best. While you can build almost everyone the way you want, only a few are versatile enough to be part of any team composition. And yes, while you can also finish the game with the base characters and save your Crewmate Cards for the end, there are some you should consider having on your team at all times, whether it is because of their DPS capabilities, healing skills, or just due to how fun they are to play with. Also, before we move on, there’ll be story spoilers, so read at your own risk.
5. Djeeta/Gran
Most games tend to abandon the protagonist a bit and give them a few generic skills, but not this one. Initially, Djeeta and Gran seem to be the run-of-the-mill protagonists with a few abilities that don’t shine, but in truth, they are some of the most versatile characters in the game. Both of them share the same skills and those range from huge DPS abilities to crowd-control skills and even some of the best healing spells in the game. While they don’t get any story-related power-ups throughout the game, they are still a fantastic choice for main characters should you want to take them to endgame content.
4. Ferry
Ferry is a fan favorite and one of the best characters in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. While she isn’t part of the story, nor does she appear in cutscenes throughout the game, she makes up an interesting kit that fits in any party composition. She summons her pets to dish out damage and, at the same time, support her party. At first, her gameplay seems a bit stale due to the lack of combos, but she’s one of the safest and most rewarding characters to play during most quests.
3. Zeta
Zeta is clearly the Dragoon of Granblue Fantasy games due to her destructive spear and jump attacks. Many people will think her gameplay loop is brain-dead, but it isn’t. By perfecting button inputs, you can keep Zeta jumping and landing some of the hardest-hitting attacks in the game. When she isn’t in the air, she’ll be buffing herself or preparing to counter some of the many attacks foes throw at her. However, we feel she performs better in boss fights than in other quests that include hordes of enemies.
2. Narmaya
This is a personal favorite, and we’re glad to see she’s also one of the best characters in Granblue Fantasy: Relink. Similar to the fighting games of the series, Narmaya has a unique combat style that sees her switching from one stance to another. Here, one stance lets her hit hard by charging her attacks, while the other sees her attack with extreme speed at foes. It is hard to master due to the timing and button inputs, but once you get it right, she’ll be a killing machine. On the other hand, you can build her as a tank and take the heat from the team, making her useful in certain optional missions.
1. Id
Last but not least, we have the unlockable character of the game. After you finish the story, Id becomes a permanent playable character. Essentially, he plays almost the same as the protagonists but with a few added skills that make him the best character in the game. Since he also has the iconic Bahamut powers, you’ll recognize a few skills. However, what makes him great is the ability to switch to his dragon form once he fills up his gauge. Here, he gets shorter cooldowns, increased damage, and some of the game’s most devastating skills. It seems like the developers had a favorite, and we love being able to add Id to our crew.
For us, these are the characters that perform greatly in almost any situation. However, being the best is subjective, and it comes down to player skill. Furthermore, even if everyone plays as Narmaya, she can be built differently. So don’t be afraid to grab other characters and build them in a way that they outshine even the best crew members of Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
