In what might be HoYoverse’s best gift for the community, every Honkai Star Rail players obtained the coveted scholar, Dr. Ratio, for free in version 1.6, meaning that everyone and their grandmother are looking for the right build for this character. If you didn’t know, he hails from the Path of the Hunt and wields the Imaginary element, making him a must-have for almost any team comp. Still, only a few Light Cones and relic sets can turn this erudite into a killing machine.
Best DPS Build for Dr. Ration in Honkai Star Rail
Dr. Ratio is a DPS character focusing on single-target moves with a few follow-up attacks. While the imaginary element shone more when Imbibitor Lunae became available, he uses a lot of skill points and only works in a few team comps. Luckily, Dr. Ratio is more flexible regarding his build capabilities in Honkai Star Rail, and to make the most out of him, we recommend the following items.
Light Cones
Since Dr. Ratio is a premium character, he has a featured Light Cone, and yes, that’s the best for him this time. Still, other options work equally well for those not eager to spend their Stellar Jade on this item and prefer to use any of the ones they can get for free.
- Baptism of Pure Thought (Best): Increases the wearer’s CRIT DMG by 20%. For every debuff on the enemy target, the wearer’s CRIT DMG against them increases by 6%, up to a maximum of 3 stacks. When the wearer attacks the target with their Ultimate, the wearer receives the Disputation effect, increasing DMG dealt by 36%, and their follow-up attacks ignore 20% of the target’s DEF. This effect lasts for two turns.
- Return to Darkness: Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 12%. After a CRIT Hit, there is a 12% fixed chance to dispel one buff on the target enemy. This effect can only trigger once per attack.
- Only Silence Remains: Increases ATK of its wearer by 16%. If two or fewer enemies are on the field, the wearer’s CRIT Rate increases by 12%.
Undoubtedly, Dr. Ratio’s featured Light Cone is the best for his build in Honkai Star Rail. It increases his CRIT DMG, and his follow-up attacks ignore defense, making this item ideal for any boss fight. It might not be the best for Pure Fiction, but you’ll love having Dr. Ratio in almost every boss fight.
Relic Sets
There are two ways you can go about relic sets for Dr. Ratio. You can focus on increasing his Imaginary damage while buffing his CRIT rate or perhaps increase his attack stat and the damage his follow-up attacks do. Here are two relic sets we recommend for him:
- Wastelander of Banditry Desert (4 Pieces)
- 2 Pieces: Increases Imaginary DMG by 10%.
- 4 Pieces: When attacking debuffed enemies, the wearer’s CRIT Rate increases by 10%, and their CRIT DMG increases by 20% against Imprisoned enemies.
If you have difficulty getting any other set, you can play it safe with this one. It increases Dr. Ratio’s overall damage and buffs his CRIT DMG as well, making it a good initial choice —however, there’s another set we recommend more than this one.
- The Ashblazing Grand Duke (2 Pieces) and Prisoner in Deep Confinement (2 Pieces)
- Increase follow-up attack DMG dealt by 20% + ATK increases by 12%.
This set is excellent. It synergizes perfectly with Dr. Ratio’s featured Light Cone because it focuses on follow-up attacks. Besides, you get an ATK increase, which is excellent due to his abilities using this stat to perform better. As for the Planar Ornament, equip the Inert Salsotto, and you’ll be doing critical hits left and right.
Team Comp
We recommend two teams for Dr. Ratio’s build in Honkai Star Rail. Sadly, to make this character shine, you’ll need a few premium characters in whichever composition you want to pursue. Here are the party members that work best with him:
- Mono Imaginary Team
- Main DPS: Dr. Ratio
- Support: Silver Wolf
- Second Support: Yukong
- Healer: Luocha
- Follow-up DPS Team
- Main DPS: Dr. Ratio
- Sub-DPS: Topaz
- Support: Pela
- Healer: Huohuo
For the first team, you have it easy. The rotation opens with Silver Wolf’s skill to implant the Imaginary weakness on an enemy, using Yukong’s skill to buff Dr. Ratio and then unleash him to damage your foes. Luocha keeps everyone’s HP full while providing AoE Imaginary damage.
If you’re going for the second team, having Pela act as fast as possible to debuff enemies with her skill is essential. Topaz is there to increase everyone’s follow-up attack damage, meaning she must also act fast. Try to bring Huohuo with her energy almost complete to get her ultimate going and provide energy to make Dr. Ratio launch his ultimate as quickly as possible.
Ultimately, Dr. Ratio is a versatile character that only needs a good ATK and CRIT DMG stat to perform well. Still, he can only shine if he has the right partners on the battlefield. If you don’t have any of the above characters, you could swap them with others that apply debuffs, such as Hanya, Guinaifen, or someone that buffs him like Tingyun. In any case, prepare those credits and materials because building this scholar is hard work.
