Black Ops has generated one of the best stories that Call of Duty has ever had and it’s still going on with Black Ops 6, and well, probably next year with Black Ops 7. The Black Ops Campaign missions are filled with a tone of mystery and darkness, which are the golden rings of the series, and here we’re going to rank their bests from BO1 to BO6. Nope, Black Ops 4 has got no place here.
10. In Darkness – Black Ops 3
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has the worst Campaign among all the Black Ops games, there, I said it. But, it’s got a promising story that’s poorly delivered by an overcooked scenario that actually does give you nightmares. From killing the player right from the get-go to revealing that it’s been Kane all along, all Black Ops 3 missions give you a fake feeling, and they are, really, all going in your nameless operator’s head. Among them, however, if we have to choose one to present Black Ops 3 in our best BO missions ranking list, it’s In Darkness. The mission gives you a tough fight on the streets of apocalyptic Singapore that has a touching view; that’s it.
9. Brick In The Wall – Black Ops Cold War
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War features a cinematic Campaign and Brick In The Wall takes that to the next level. You’re looking for an enemy agent called Volkov, but he’s not out there to be captured after you break into his forces. Well, you do engage in combat to do just that in the end, but there is a lot of stealth work to do to reach this baddie. The scenery looks amazing, the mission’s start is a classic Black Ops intro, and I like that Dart Gun so much.
8. Black Ops 6 – Separation Anxiety
Ever imagined a roguelike Call of Duty game? We don’t have any, but one mission in particular gives you the vibes. Separation Anxiety is a mission in which you do a ton of work to break into the Pantheon group’s commander and former ally, Jane Harrow. Mind-bending, touching, and most importantly, horrifying! The dark room with walking mannequins and zombies running to you while you’re playing a mini Gunfight game mode is just remarkable. Not to mention that the wild mystery of Jane Harrow’s parents’ deaths by the CIA is still unsolved, making this one of the best missions of Black Ops 6 that’s still a hot topic to touch.
7. Numbers – Black Ops 1
Speaking of cool views, the Numbers mission in Black Ops 1 is probably one of the best out there matched with super engaging music that sticks to your bones. Jumping from the rooftops? Check. Tight corridors combat? Check. Weaver? Check. Thunder Gun? Oh, that’s an easter egg to get this Zombies Wonder weapon and blast the enemies away with a gun that they have 0 knowledge about. Don’t tell me you didn’t fail that cinematic rooftop jump the first time.
6. High Rollers – Black Ops 6
A casino heist in a Call of Duty game could never go wrong, especially in a Black Ops game. Woods’ comms in this mission are absolutely hilarious while the adrenaline rush when you’re trying to hack into the enemy’s console with guards walking around is mental. Good start, perfect stealth, and just like always, an open combat to fight our way out in the end.
5. Cordis Die – Black Ops 2
Raul Menendez does several things to make us suffer with him in the Black Ops 2 Campaign, but invading Los Angeles with drones in full-scale combat is just brutal. We’re playing as David Mason trying our best to get Madame President to safety all in the middle of an all-out war that’s brought upon us. The mission includes different verticals from sniping to driving vehicles and an advanced jet; what a collection.
4. Emergence – Black Ops 6
Black Ops Campaigns are well known for stepping out of Call of Duty‘s mil-sim boundaries with mind-bending missions and events that may not represent realistic gunfights. Best example? Emergence. This mission takes the main character “Case” to a whole other level by introducing how he’s been tested with Cradle to get enhanced abilities similar to a super soldier from the comics. The mission is scary and action-packed, and it’s got its own Resident Evil-style map with four different boss fights! I hate mannequins.
3. Rebirth – Black Ops 1
All the Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 story from Mason’s interrogation to Reznov’s revenge comes full circle with the mission Rebirth. This is where the double-brainwashed Alex Mason goes on to Rebirth Island which we play Warzone on today and kills the man that created the terror of Nova 6 gas, Fredrick Steiner. “Dragovitch, Kravchenko, Steiner, all must die.”
2. Time and Fate – Black Ops 2
This is where Raul Menendez becomes one of the biggest villains in the Call of Duty franchise. The mission Time and Fate retells the story of Menendez losing his sister Josefina to Frank Woods’ recklessness. It features all-out combat and time transitions to show you exactly what happened from different aspects. But what makes this one of the best missions of the Black Ops series Campaigns is when we get to witness the all-out rage of Menendez. Josefina’s cry for help and people being murdered around gives our bad guy all the reasons to pull out his manchette and spill as much blood as it takes to take his poor sister back.
1. Vorkuta – Black Ops 1
“This is step 1!” Victor Reznov brainwashed us all with this mission in the Black Ops 1 Campaign. A prison break Call of Duty mission that goes by killing the guards with a makeshift knife, taking down helicopters with a harpoon, and ending it all with a motorcycle hot pursuit. It also featured a bonus excitement point for those who had played World At War and knew Victor Rezvov from the second World War.
