This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

The latest Granblue Fantasy: Relink title brings many classic characters from the franchise to a brand-new action RPG. Fans of the series will spot some old favorites, and those who button-mashed their way through the fighting game will also see some familiar faces. However, Granblue Fantasy: Relink takes a while to allow you to get all characters into your crew, so it’s important to choose who to recruit first. With some being a powerhouse and others being perfect for support, you better choose wisely before spending your hard-earned Crewmate Cards.

Who Should You Recruit First in Granblue Fantasy: Relink?

It’s important to note that Granblue Fantasy: Relink only allows you to recruit characters after obtaining Crewmate Cards, which, sadly, don’t come that often through the story. At most, you’ll get about five or six cards if you focus on the main scenario and do a few important side quests from the counter. Due to that, we have some recommendations on the best characters you should get first.

1. Narmaya

The first character you should recruit in Granblue Fantasy: Relink and one of the best is Narmaya. Don’t let her sword skills fool you. Besides being a fantastic DPS character, you can also build her to become a tank, making her essential for many encounters in the game. She gets a skill that lets her aggro enemies and grants her defense, making it great for those maining a ranged character like Eugen or Io. On the other hand, stacking her with crit damage will make her a powerhouse due to her stance-changing mechanic.

2. Ferry

At first, Ferry’s attacks might not seem like the best or most fun to pull off. You only hold down a button for a while and then finish off with a finisher to dish out damage. However, what makes her a must-have is the ability she has to buff everyone, thanks to her pets. Ferry gets several support skills that let her summon a pet, and one of those even provides players with attack and defense buffs and even healing. While Io and the protagonist are great at this, Ferry is a game-changer who can stay at a safe distance while supporting everyone in the party.

3. Zeta

Moving away from the support part, let’s focus on a true DPS. When it comes to fiery characters, we all think about Percival, but in the game, Zeta has many more things that outshine this soon-to-be king. While Zeta’s normal moveset doesn’t have the combo capabilities of the protagonist, she has one of the best and most devastating attack loops. By chaining jumping attacks, she can endlessly stay in the air, damaging enemies with her lance. Plus, she has a lot of buffs that can increase her damage and even help her counter certain attacks during hairy situations.

4. Charlotta

Size doesn’t matter, and Charlotta is a living example of that. She is one of the best characters you should recruit first in Granblue Fantasy: Relink due to her fast playstyle, buffing capabilities, and mitigation skills. She’s the whole package. She has devastating jumping attacks you can chain between skills. This knight can also attack fast the more you tap a button, making her a great DPS for whenever you break an enemy. Furthermore, she can also protect her team, making her the true archetype of a Paladin in this game.

5. Lancelot

If you thought this was a waifu list, it isn’t. Lancelot deserves to be here because he is one of the best water-type DPS in the game. We love Katalina, but Lancelot is a fast-killing machine. His normal attacks increase in speed the more you mash a button, and the more you charge that combo, the harder the finisher hits. Plus, he can freeze, dodge by attacking, and freeze enemies in place, making him great against certain slippery foes.

Ultimately, it is up to you who to choose. There are 12 characters you can unlock, and if you stick to the story, you can tackle it with the original crew. Still, some crew members perform better in certain situations, so we encourage you to find one that can fill that gap or just bring home your favorite cast member.
