By the name alone, you know that Friday Night Funkin, or FNF, is loaded with fun. But how funkin’ can you get? If the modding community has anything to say about it, then it’s limitless. This open-source game welcomes and encourages creativity by all players. With such a massive and committed following, narrowing down the best FNF mods that perfectly match the Friday Night Funkin vibe is tough. Even so, we pulled out some of our favorites (in no particular order) that anyone can enjoy.
Vs Kyu!
From the artwork to the songs, this easily becomes one of the best FNF mods. The new character of Kyu is attention-grabbing right away, making her a joyful addition to battle Boyfriend. Plus, there’s a balance between uplifting, exciting songs and somber, compelling tunes. This even adds seamless animated cutscenes to draw you further into the story.
Graffiti Groovin’ | V.S. Skarlet Bunny
The visuals are an instant draw for this mod. They’re as bold and in-your-face as Friday Night Funkin, which allows the mod to blend perfectly within the universe. You can battle the “bunny girl,” but an update to the app also sees Boyfriend and Bunny team up to face off against an even more dangerous threat.
FNF VS TOAD
FNF VS TOAD is one of the best mods for nostalgia’s sake. One look at this, and you’re instantly reminded of the colorful world of Mario. Toad’s design here works well with the Friday Night Funkin style. The songs are fun, and there’s just enough of a challenge involved. As a bonus, did you catch who else is lurking in the pipe in the background?
Friday Night Funkmon
When you want things to get a little wild, you can’t go wrong with the Friday Night Funkmon mod. In fact, “wild” is an understatement. Numerous opponents pop up (looking quite familiar to certain popular pocket monsters), and things can quickly get out of hand. It’s chaotic and thrilling all at once.
Zombie Catchers Funkin’
A silly and simple mod, Zombie Catchers Funkin’ is an underrated experience. It’s a bit newer than many of the mods on the site that have been there for over a year. Gone is the Boyfriend we used to know. Instead, we have a blue yet sweet-looking character to enjoy. The mod is certainly worth trying out, as it gives you a handful of new songs to experience.
Starlight Mayhem | Vs. CJ
The best FNF mods fully embrace the world of Friday Night Funkin while adding their spin to it. And that’s exactly what the Starlight Mayhem mod does. There are multiple difficulties to enjoy, a week’s worth of new cutscenes, and eight new songs to battle over. It’s even voice-acted, so you don’t always have to read the text.
Friday Night Funkin’: Doki Doki Takeover Plus!
Doki Doki Literature Club! is an insanely popular visual novel, so it’s no surprise creative modders found inspiration within it for Friday Night Funkin. This comes with a full storyline, and each character from the beloved visual novel gets their time to shine. Incredibly, it even has more than 30 songs. There’s a host of content in this mod just begging to be discovered.
Friday Night Funkin: Neo
As one of the best FNF mods, this one transports you into the future. There’s a massive change to the game, from the backgrounds to the songs and the overall neon style. It’s sleek. It’s artistic. It can put you in the perfect mood to jam out. Besides the custom-written songs, the mod even adds new SFX to enjoy. As you play, search for all the hidden lore lurking around.

It’s not the most difficult out of the FNF mods, but it’s certainly one of the best with dialogue and character interaction. The devs even explain how it’s a more story-driven mod. Boyfriend doesn’t face off against random opponents. Instead, he faces off against his big brother. It’s a delightful change of pace, more so with the voice-acted lines of dialogue.
Friday Night Funkin’: ENTITY
Now we’ve got a Friday Night Funkin mod with some difficulty. There’s a song for each character, giving you four total to play around with. Both the gameplay and the cutscenes are well done. Even Girlfriend has some new poses. It lets her seamlessly blend into whatever background you have for a more natural look.
Princess Peach as Girlfriend
Who hasn’t wanted Princess Peach as a girlfriend at some point in their life? Well, make those dreams a reality when you download this mod. Using Princess Peach as a stand-in for Girlfriend is too perfect an opportunity to pass up.
VS Hex Mod
Who said all your opponents have to be intimidating and scary? Boyfriend deserves to battle some happy people, too, and the VS Hex Mod gives you the freedom to do that. Hex makes this a purely fun mod to play. What’s even more awesome is the fact that there are 10 songs you can battle with.
Friday Night Funkin’ Minus
Sometimes, the music isn’t the primary concern. Perhaps you want to focus on looks alone. This mod pours its attention into the skins in the game. It strives to make all the characters resemble their sprites instead. The mod is cute and charming enough that it’s worth a download.
Friday Night Funkin’ Silva Pack
It’s time to battle against some of your favorite characters and musicians. The Silva Pack brings the likes of Among Us and even Daft Punk against Boyfriend. There’s no better way to get lost in some great tunes. Plus, it’s worth it to see a backward cap-wearing Luigi participate in a rap battle.

Did you know that cell phones can lay down some bars? Well, you do now. It uses the classic ringtones, making it all the more hilarious to watch him attempt to mimic and beat a phone, and he puts all his skills to work even if it is Girlfriend calling.
Friday night funkin’, but bad
It’s not every day that you find a mod purposely aiming to make the game look 10x worse, yet here it is. Is it worth the download? Of course. It looks like someone tried their very best to use the worst free paint program available on PC and did it all with only their mouse. Even the music sounds bad. It’s so bad, in fact, that it’s too fun to pass up.
Miku Mod / FNF
The wildly popular Vocaloid, Hatsune Miku joins in the battle against Boyfriend thanks to this mod. She comes with three original songs, along with multiple bonus songs. The artwork and vocals for Boyfriend effortlessly match Miku’s aesthetic too. It brings a new vibe into the game, more so with the addition of new cutscenes.
Tricky Mod
If you know the Madness Combat franchise, then you know Tricky the Clown. He’s yanked into FNF with one of the best mods. What makes this a thrilling mod is the difficulty scale. The more you play, the harder it becomes. It reaches borderline ridiculous levels, but that only increases the enjoyment as it pushes you to improve.
Golf Minigame ft. Miku
Golf in a rhythm game? It makes more sense than you think. So, download the Golf Minigame mod and find out how well the two blend with each other. There are new outfits, backgrounds, and songs. Also, we get another appearance from Miku, showing just how much this fandom appreciates the Vocaloid.
B-Side Redux
With over a million downloads, it’s clear that many view B-Side Redux as one of the best FNF mods. It remixes the music we’re used to in the game, enhancing and putting a new spin that keeps the game fresh and maintains the excitement. The mod certainly doesn’t make the game easy, though, so hone your skills, as some of the battles are tough in the best way.
As you’re trying out some of the best FNF mods, remember that you can even combine some. This way, you can turn your game into exactly what you want it to be.
