This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Of all the classes in Baldur’s Gate 3, people tend to choose those who are versed in the ways of magic. This is expected as the game has some flashy spells with destructive spells. However, there is one class that makes up for the lack of magical abilities, and that’s the Fighter. The Battle Master subclass is chock full of powerful maneuvers up-and-coming brawlers can learn and use. Not every technique is worth investing in, but we will explain which abilities are worth the time and effort.

The 5 Best Battle Master Maneuvers in Baldur’s Gate 3

This subclass is great as it gets to use Superiority Dice. These dice are great as they allow the Fighter to perform certain skills to give them and their party members an edge in battle. Here, we’ve listed our five best Battle Master Maneuvers in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Disarming Attack

At first, the Disarming Attack maneuver might not seem the best, but many fights can be trivialized if you make the enemy drop their weapon. By using this skill, you can roll your superiority dice to disarm your opponent. What’s best is that you can actually try and steal the weapon the enemy dropped, leaving them defenseless.

Goading Attack

If you really want to be a tank in the game, you can’t go wrong with this skill. The Goading Attack maneuver lets you get the enemy’s attention. Not only that, but if the enemy decides to attack someone else, they’ll get a disadvantage. This is perfect for those who love taking the front lines and shielding their party members from harm.

Precision Attack

If you prefer to go down the DPS route, there’s also a maneuver for that. The Precision Attack skill lets you roll your superiority dice and add that result to your attack roll. This is a skill we recommend using whenever you want to finish a fight fast. Provided your Fighter has good initiative, they’ll be razing the battlefield in seconds.

Pushing Attack

While many players are used to shoving enemies left and right, a maneuver lets you do that, too. The Pushing Attack skill lets you roll a superiority dice to damage an enemy and push them up to 4.5m. This is great if you want to do the old hit-and-run tactic.

Riposte

Last but certainly not least, we have Riposte. More than an active action, this is a reaction. You can activate it on your reaction menu inside your spellbook to activate manually. What this skill does is allow you to counter-attack an enemy after they miss their hit on you. It only works on melee attacks, but if your AC is high enough, you’ll be taking down enemies fast and leaving the fight unscathed.

How to Equip and Use Maneuvers

Now that you have the best Battle Master Maneuvers in Baldur’s Gate 3, it is also important to know how to equip and use them, especially due to the game having many skills that clutter the hotbar sometimes. Here’s what you must do:

  • Open your spellbook by pressing “K”
  • Head to the Fighter tab and drag the Maneuvers to your hotbar.
    • You can unlock 3 Maneuvers at level 3 and 2 more at level 10.

If you want to make the most out of these maneuvers, we recommend you pick them in the following order. Also, we’ve included the effects for each skill if you want to learn more about them.

  1. Disarming Attack
    • Spend a superiority die to make an attack that deals an additional 1d8 damage and possibly forces the target to drop the weapons they are holding. Works for Melee and Ranged attacks.
  2. Riposte
    • When a hostile creature misses you with a melee attack, expend a superiority die to retaliate with a powerful attack that deals an additional 1d8 damage.
  3. Goading Attack
    • Deal an additional 1d8 and attempt to goad the target attacking you. Target receives a Disadvantage on attacking any other creature.
  4. Precision Attack
    • Spend a Superiority Die and add its result to an Attack Roll.
  5. Pushing Attack
    • Spend a superiority die to make an attack that deals an additional 1d8 damage and possibly pushes the target back 4.5m.

Following the above order, you’ll have the best Maneuvers for Battle Master to let you breeze through the game’s first fights. If you are unhappy with some of them or want to try something different, remember you can always respec your class to change your initial choices. There’s also a trait that lets you pick maneuvers regardless of your class, which can open opportunities for a fun multiclass build. In the end, follow the path you’re most happy with. And if you want to learn more about the Fighter class and subclasses, here’s a great video by Mortismal Gaming.
