With Horizon Forbidden West no longer a PlayStation exclusive, it’s found a home on PC, including its Burning Shores DLC. You know what that means? Mods! Bring on the weirdness, the bizarre, and the questionable content. The sky’s the limit when it comes to mods, and while Horizon Forbidden West is a fantastic game, there’s nothing wrong with adjusting it to suit your tastes a little more. In my book, more options are always better.
5. DLSS 3.6.0 Update
I’d consider the DLS 3.6.0 Update to be among the most important mods you can get for Horizon Forbidden West. DLSS is a godsend for eking out extra frames and, generally speaking, offers a much smoother experience at the cost of very little graphical fidelity. This mod will bring the game up to the latest version, which has actually shipped out of date. The modder, Zanity03, has been even dedicated to keeping it up-to-date!
4. HDR Max Luminance Fix
Speaking of fixing the game, there’s an annoying bug with the HDR max luminance setting. Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work. You can adjust the slider all you want as you stare deeply into the landscape, but it’ll always default to 300 nits. If you like playing with HDR and need to make adjustments to best fit your monitor, the HDR Max Luminance Fix is a no-brainer, at least until a patch is rolled out.
3. Clear Vision Reshade
Have you ever noticed Horizon Forbidden West has a yellow filter over it? Once you realize it’s there, it’s rather distracting. Not to mention, the yellow tint gives the game a somewhat hazy look. Sure, yellowing from the sun is natural, but it’s dialed up just a tad too high. With the Clear Vision Reshade mod, that yellowing is stripped, in addition to better colors, shadows, and sharper image. HFW looks all the better for it; the skies never looked so blue!
2. Natural Color Visuals
However, if you want to lean into more natural colors, the aptly named Natural Color Visuals mod should be right up your alley. Colors have a much more vibrant look to them, which you really see in the red and white of the flowers Aloy likes to hide in. While the yellow tint I mentioned earlier doesn’t appear to be removed, it is diminished to a realistic tone. Overall, it looks cleaner, sharper, and the fog looks noticeably thicker.
1. Horizon Forbidden West Cheat Table
Of course, you can’t have a list of the best Horizon Forbidden West mods without a cheat table! Assuming you have knowledge of using Cheat Engine, the Horizon Forbidden West Cheat Table mod offers a modest list of cheats you can activate at will, like more health, Focus, stamina, even oxygen (which is especially helpful for underwater excursions). There are also options for altering player progression and positioning.
