The Officer is a supporting archetype in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader that enhances your crew’s capabilities. When your companions struggle in the early-game, the Officer provides additional assistance in boosting stats to take down enemies. Officers are also great at conversation with high Fellowship stats giving you a better chance at clearing dialogue checks. If you want the best Officer build in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, this is how you should build them.
Best Officer Origins in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader
Your character’s background affects their stats and talents, letting them perform better with certain equipment and archetypes. The best Officer build in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader should have the following origins:
- Homeworld: Voidborn or Hive World
- Origins: Noble
- Focus: Fellowship, Ballistic Skill, Agility
Voidborn provides a Fellowship bonus though it gives a penalty to Willpower. Hive World boosts Willpower and doesn’t affect Fellowship at all. Voidborn is best if you can offset the Willpower penalty, but Hive World never penalizes Fellowship. Noble is the only origin that boosts Fellowship while boosting Coercion and Persuasion as well. You also get the You. Serve. Me. ability, which enhances a companion’s stats.
Fellowship will help with dialogue checks in Chapter 2 and beyond. Ballistic Skill gives your Officer good long-range power, allowing them to be a threat after enhancing companions. Agility helps your Officer stay alive through dodging since they won’t have much damage reduction from armor.
Best Talents & Abilities For Officers
After completing the Prologue, your Officer gains experience as you journey around the Koronus Expanse. This allows them to gain new skills and talents that allow them to provide greater support. You also have a decent idea of what your party makeup looks like, allowing you to focus on the relevant skills. Here are the recommended skills you should take as you level up:

1 | Bring it Down! | N/A |
2 | Lore (Imperium) | N/A |

Investing in Ballistic Skills allows your Officer to fight after they finish enhancing their teammates. Inspire Courage is great for tanks such as Abelard or Pasqal who take a few hits while they charge towards enemies. Take Aim! is perfect for characters such as Argenta or Jae who rely on long-range attacks that are disrupted by cover.
Wounds Are No Excuse! removes fresh injuries and heals your teammates, preventing any long-term harm during the mission. Personal Oversight lets your companions move further during combat. More Than Possible enhances Bring It Down by adding +1 AP to a companion. Get Back in the Fight helps a companion recover from damage-over-time effects.
Once you fully master the Officer archetype, you can go into the Master Tactician, Grand Strategist, or Vanguard archetypes. Consider what you will do with Cassia and Jae as they are also Officers and pick the archetype necessary for your team.
