Monstrous creatures steadily surround your dwarven warrior the moment they step out for a run. To succeed in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, you should save up for Upgrades to improve your weapons, movement, HP, etc. Similar to other roguelike games, enemies are constant, but so are various upgrades as you gain XP. But Upgrades are permanent buffs that don’t vanish after a run.
Most Powerful Upgrades to Get First in Deep Rock Galactic Survivor
There are 12 Upgrades, and all of them can benefit your runs. However, I feel like these six can pay off the best in the beginning.
Pocket Magnets
- Unlock: 500 Credits | x2 Jadiz
The more XP you gain, the better your chances of leveling up and unlocking new buffs during a run, which is why Pocket Magnets is a useful Upgrade to get first in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. It increases your pickup radius by 4% per level. Of course, you can just run closer to the dropped items, but sometimes it can get too overwhelming. When that happens, the last thing you want is to worry about backtracking. With a greater radius, you can keep it moving and gather the XP or items you need along the way.
Fast Learner
- Unlock: 500 Credits | x2 Jadiz
The stronger your dwarf is, the better chance you have of getting through a run. And with the Fast Learner Upgrade, you can improve how much XP you gain by 2% each level. Fast leveling equals faster earning of buffs like improved weapons, a must-have in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. There’s already a grind when you’re in a run, so why not make things easier for yourself?
Getting Fit
- Unlock: 500 Credits | x2 Magnite
Health is a major factor in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, so Getting Fit is one of the vital Upgrades. You’ll notice just how quickly those beasts can wear you down as the swarms grow. Getting Fit will increase your Max HP by 10 per level, giving you more breathing room to take more damage.
Better Boots
- Unlock: 500 Credits | x2 Croppa
In Deep Rock Galctic: Survivor, you need to move. Staying still is a death sentence. Unless you roll certain perks, you’re not going to be as fast as you want in the beginning. Your best bet is to save up for the Better Boots Upgrade that increases your movement speed by 2% each level. Trust me, you’ll immediately notice the difference.
Mining 101
- Unlock: 500 Credits | x2 Croppa
Mining isn’t as critical as other Upgrades, but it’s a way for you to get them in the first place. Plus, the Mining Upgrade pays off well for a survivor like Driller. But perhaps the thing I enjoy the most about this Upgrade is that it increases your mining speed by 2%, a handy survival trait in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. Faster mining means more chances to escape an overwhelming swarm.
Heavy Bullets
- Unlock: 500 Credits | x2 Bismor
Perhaps the most important Upgrade to prioritize in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is Heavy Bullets. It increases your weapon damage by 4% with each level. It can’t be overstated enough that killing the swarms as fast as possible will raise your chances of survival. What makes this Upgrade such a helpful tool is that it pairs well as you level up in a run and unlock access to more weapons, increase damage, reload speed, and more.
As there are 12 Upgrades in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, you can eventually access all of them. The six above are simply ones I feel are worth investing your resources and credits into early on. They balance each other out rather well, and address various aspects about your character such as weaponry, speed, and health. From there, you can continue to forge the best build across the various survivors.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is available on PC.
