In Warhammer 40K Darktide world, survival depends not only on teamwork but also on the capabilities of each character. Therefore, building your character for the best outcome is essential for utilizing the character’s unique abilities. The Veteran is a critical team player with robust defense and formidable firepower. Choosing the right build for the Veteran can make the difference between merely surviving and thriving in the face of hordes of enemies. So, here’s a look at the best Veteran build in Warhammer 40K Darktide.

Choosing the Right Buil for the Veteran

Veteran is the best class for long-range combat situations and has strong fighting capabilities in close combat situations. However, the Veteran still does not possess much crowd-controlling abilities and is weak against armor penetration in long-range combat. Therefore, the best build for veterans must increase their survivability and versatility while improving their long-range combat capabilities. The following is the best build for the Veteran in Warhammer 40K Darktide.

  • Primary Weapon: Monitorum Mk III Power Sword
  • Secondary Weapon: M35 Magnacore Mk II Plasma Gun
  • Aura: Survivalist
  • Blitz: Shredder Frag Grenade
  • Ability: Executioner’s Stance

Primary Weapon: Monitorum Mk III Power Sword

Monitor Mk III Power Sword comes with 78% damage with 61% mobility. It is the best melee weapon with its high damage output and mobility. It is very beneficial for close combat situations and provides good support to retreat for a safer distance quickly. Also, Cleave Damage, Fitness, and Cleave Targets come with impressive 80%,80%, and 74% bars, respectively, making it a crucial weapon for any Veteran build-in Warhammer 40K Darktide.

Secondary Weapon: M35 Magnacore Mk II Plasma Gun

The M35 Magnacore Mk II Plasma Gun is the best secondary weapon for Veterans in terms of damage output and versatility. It has 80% damage with an impressive 80% charge rate. Even though the ammo bar is a bit lower at 62%, it is one of the best weapons for Veterans, with 80% Stopping power and  72% Thermal resistance.

The Loadout: 1-10 Skill Points

  • Longshot: Increase 20% damage for enemies in far range.
  • Close Order Drill: 33% toughness damage reduction.
  • Keep their heads down: 25% ranged attack suppression.
  • Volley Adopt: 30% reload speed on elite and specialist enemies.
  • Demolition Team: You and Elite get a 5% chance of replenishing a grenade from elite and specialist enemies.
  • Charismatic: 50% aura radius.
  • Shredder Frag Grenade: The grenade explodes after a short time of throwing and applies six sacks of bleed to all enemies hit.
  • Ranged Damage Boost: Increase the range damage by 5%.
  • Get Back in the Fight: Stunt immunity, slow immunity for 6s, and restore 50% stamina when the toughness is broken.
  • Catch a Breath: Replenish 5% of toughness when no enemies are nearby.

Some players choose Grenade Tinkerer and Fireteam as the Aura instead of Catch a Breath, and Survivalist for Veteran build in Warhammer 40K Darktide. However, considering the limited number of grenades, choosing the latter is the best choice since you can use the ability’s benefit for most situations.

The Loadout: 11-20 Skill Points

  • Survivalist: Replenish 1% off ammo for you and allies whenever you kill Elite or Specialist
  • Reload Boost: Increase the reload speed by 5%
  • Kill zone:  15%  base damage range when no enemies are nearby.
  • Executioner’s Stance: You enter a ranged stance for five seconds and instantly equip the range weapon. Deals 25% range and ranged weak spot damage while reducing Spread and recoil.
  • Relentless: Refresh the Executioner’s Stance duration for its bonuses of 5 seconds.
  • Counter Fire: Executionaire’s stance now outlines all ranged enemies.
  • Enhanced Target Priority: Executionaire’s stance now outlines all elite and specialist enemies for allies for 5 seconds.
  • Ranged Damage Boost: Increase the range damage by 5%.
  • Stamina Boost:  Increase  stamina by 1%
  • Tactical Awareness: Combat ability cooldown reduced by 6 seconds on specialist enemy kill.

The critical abilities highlighted here are Tactical Awareness, Bring It Down, and Superiority Complex. These three together make the build deadly against large and challenging enemies, such as Ogryns and Monstrosities. Combining these abilities provides a significant damage boost, making taking down these difficult foes easier for this Veteran build in Warhammer 40K Darktide.

The Loadout: 21-30 Skill Points

  • Bring It Down: 25% damage in Ogryn and Monstrosities.
  • Superiority Complex: 10% base damage on Elite enemies.
  • Reload Boost: Increase the reload speed by 5%
  • Ranged Damage Boost: 5% ranged damage.
  • Deadshot: 25% critical chance and 60% sway reduction while using the range weapon’s alternate fire.
  • Exhilarating Take Down: Replenish 15% Toughness and gain 10% toughness damage in Ranged kills.
  • Precision Strikes: 15% weak spot damage determined gains suppression immunity.
  • Toughness Damage Reduction: Reduce toughness damage by 10%.
  • Always prepared: 25% Ammo.
  • Marksman: On ability, use of 10 seconds and any weak spot damage hit, gain 50% power.

Other than the Deadshot, other choices are straightforward here. We choose Deadshot to capitalize on the increased critical chance and reduced sway, making it easier to hit.

As mentioned earlier, the best build for the Veteran in Warhammer 40K Darktide must increase range attack capabilities, and this build supports the purpose. However, this might vary with your preferred playstyle, and it is up to you to decide the best build. Since the game allows you to try different builds without cost, there is always a chance for experiments.

Suppose you want to go with Fireteam as Aura and Demolition Stockpile as the ability; the video below from Broadside Gaming shows how to do it. As mentioned, choosing these two passive abilities might limit you in some combat situations. Therefore, we still recommend going with Survivalist and Executioner’s Stance to get the best out of the Veteran’s range abilities.
