While many are getting ready to welcome their relatives for some holiday joy, others, like us, just want to buy as many games as possible to have something to play during this festive season. Valve’s most recent sale has just started, and everyone is ready to whip out that credit card and Christmas Bonus to do some proper spending. With so many games to grab, we’ve made a list of the best deals you can get during the Steam Winter Sale 2024.
Palworld
Let’s kick off the list with one of the games that started 2024 on a high note. Palworld is a fantastic creature collector/survival crafter with guns, exploding penguins, and more. Despite the lawsuit situation, Palworld has stood strong and remains one of the best games of the year. With two new expansions, the most recent one being the largest in the game, now’s the perfect time to jump into it and start blasting, capturing, and smacking creatures in this colorful world.
Tekken 8
Tekken 8 had a fantastic launch, making it one of the best of the series. While some people have some valid complaints about the game’s monetization aspects, we can all agree that Tekken 8 is a bombastic fighting game and probably one of the best this year. Furthermore, there’s a new character from Final Fantasy XVI joining the ranks, so if you purchase the necessary DLC, you’ll be able to take Rosaria’s finest to the ring.
Okami HD
This might be an odd pick, especially due to how old the game is, but with the sequel on the way, Okami HD is a must-play for those who’ve ignored it. With a fantastic art style, a great story, and excellent gameplay, Okami is truly a genre-defining experience many should try. And if you only heard from this game after The Game Awards 2024, trust me, you’re in for a treat.
Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria
Out of all the recent Lord of the Rings games we’ve seen, Return to Moria is certainly the one that redeemed the franchise in the video game landscape. Now that it is finally on Valve’s platform, players can enjoy a fantastic and in-depth (no pun intended) survival crafting experience alone or with friends. We recommend the latter as there’s nothing more satisfying than mining with your fellow dwarves while singing. Plus, it is at an all-time low discount, making it one of the best deals of the Steam Winter Sale 2024.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard
While the series has long abandoned its roots and changed considerably for this entry, it’s still a terrific RPG with flashy combat and a great story. Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a few flaws here and there, but it also has some great moments that become better thanks to its gorgeous visuals. If you were on the fence about getting it at launch, now’s the perfect time to buy it. It is not the best in the series, but it is a good new beginning, and the formula it brings is quite intricate and can hook you for a few dozen hours.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Even with its rough launch on PC, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has “arisen” (pardon the joke) to Very Positive reviews on Steam, and with it being at 43% off during the Winter Sale 2024, it is a deal you can’t miss. Price aside, Dragon’s Dogma 2 provides a great adventure in one of the best-designed maps ever. The combat is flashy, fast, and impactful. The character creator is one of the best Capcom has made, and while the main story isn’t groundbreaking, the side missions and optional quests are highly memorable. If you didn’t play it when it launched, now’s the perfect time to create your Arisen and venture into this perilous land.
Lies of P
This one isn’t a 2024 entry, but there’s a reason why we included it here: the upcoming DLC. Out of all Soulslike in the market who try to mimic what FromSoftware has established, Lies of P is one of the few that nails the formula and even enhances it in some ways. The story isn’t as convoluted, the combat is deep and strategic, and the visuals are fantastic. If, for whatever reason, you haven’t played this game yet, you can get it now that it’s on sale and prepare for the expansion, which will likely draw many players back in.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
Capcom put out some absolute bangers this year, but one that many overlooked was Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. This game blends RTS elements with Tower Defense mechanics, action combat, terrific boss fights, and an unforgettable plot that will have you thinking about every action you perform. Besides, it has a lot of replayability even after you finish the campaign, so you’ll be spending a lot of time in this haunted mountain.
SteamWorld Heist 2
One of the hidden gems of 2024 has to be SteamWorld Heist 2. Players familiar with the SteamWorld series might already know what to expect with this one, but if you’re new, it is a tactical game with semi-open world exploration and turn-based combat. It has an endearing story with amazing characters, and it is truly one of the year’s best tactical experiences. Oh, and the cherry on top of it is the fantastic soundtrack it has that will have you singing all tavern songs for weeks.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
One of the last deals we want to highlight from the Steam Winter Sale 2024 is Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. After 2023, we thought this year would be a bit dry regarding RPGs, but we were wrong. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes brings a larger-than-life adventure with over a hundred recruitable characters, a home base you can modify, a plethora of mini-games, and a gorgeous art style. The story might have a few pacing issues, but when it hits its high points, it doesn’t let go. It is one of the most memorable games we played this year and one that deserves at least one playthrough.
