Bethesda just started shoveling coal into the hype train this morning. They tweeted out a teaser with an old school tv card, very reminiscent of the Fallout series, and a short but sweet #PleaseStandBy.
Shortly thereafter Bethesda started a live stream which has become a waiting room for(as of 12 pm pst) over 140k eager fans. The stream has a flat screen with the tv card displayed on it, and a vault boy bobblehead on a table. Every so often someone comes by and hypes the room up just by walking through, however, it’s not clear when any actual information will be given out.
So with this seemingly imminent reveal looming, the question becomes what is this all about? With E3 less than two weeks away, what could they possibly want to reveal on a random twitch stream, that wouldn’t be better suited for the big stage?
The safest bet is a Fallout 3 remaster. There are rumors that a version for the Nintendo Switch has been in the works. This year IS the 10th anniversary of the groundbreaking RPG, so a remaster for not only the switch but for all platforms would make sense. It would also make sense that Bethesda doesn’t want to waste it’s stage time at E3 on more remasters, they could do this twitch reveal and then hit E3 with completely new material.
If it’s not a remaster, whether it be Fallout 3 or the criminally underrated Fallout: New Vegas, then it has to be one of two things. Either Fallout 5, or another spinoff in the same style as New Vegas. Since Fallout 4 wasn’t that long ago, if it IS a new game then I would put my money on a Fallout: New Vegas 2 or something like the long-rumored Fallout: New Orleans.
It’s possible that this stream is only for hype, and at the end of it we will only get a trailer. If that is the case, then it’s entirely possible that the wishful thinkers get what they want.
