June 11th’s Xbox Showcase just revealed a release date for Bethesda’s Starfield, delighting many fans. Starfield was initially slated for release on November 11, 2022, but it was delayed in May 2022. Given the challenges faced with Redfall, it is crucial for Starfield to have a flawless launch. With this announcement, there are certain to be no more delays or other issues with the game prior to its release.
However, as you may already be aware, the concept of achieving liftoff seems to be central to Starfield. Unlike most depictions of space travel, Starfield presents a grittier and more hazardous approach. It is not the futuristic utopia of Star Trek; instead, humanity traverses the stars, albeit with great peril.
Similar to other Bethesda games, player choice is highly emphasized in Starfield. It features a classic Bethesda dialogue system along with a persuasion system influenced by your character’s stats. You can select a professional background and personality traits that impact your character’s development. Todd Howard assures players that the system allows for various playstyles, with traits providing benefits but also balancing them with downsides. While this follows established conventions, Bethesda has been known to set the standards. One exciting aspect is that Starfield is an original game and not a re-release of Skyrim, marking a significant release from Bethesda after a long wait.
