Shannen Doherty has been battling cancer for eight years. During that time, the Beverly Hills 9021 star has had a lot of time to reflect on her life and, sadly, her death. But she wants to clarify a few things; she has some specific instructions when it comes to her funeral.
Shannen Doherty Cancer Battle
No one ever wants to talk about their death. But if there is one thing that everyone knows and understands, it’s that when your time is up, it’s up. Shannen Doherty has had years to think about how she wants things handled when her time comes.
The 90210-star talks with fans about her battle during her “Let’s Be Clear” podcast show. The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Following the diagnosis, she revealed that she was undergoing a mastectomy and underwent chemotherapy and radiation. Two years later, she announced to her fans that she was in remission. But in 2019, Shannen’s cancer returned.
Shannen Doherty has not had an easy go of things. Shannen was hit with more devastating news in June of 2023: the cancer had spread to her brain. Even though she plans to keep up the fight, at times, the disease wears on you.
Making Plans For the Future
During her podcast show, Shannen Doherty discusses how she sees her funeral. Shannen point blankly tells her guest, Chris Cortazzo, that there are “a lot of people” she does not want at her funeral.
“There’s a lot of people that I think would show up that I don’t want there,” she told her guest, Chris Cortazzo. He is her best friend and the executor of her will. Shannen Doherty explains that she has a list of people she wants to skip her funeral service.
“Like, they don’t really like me — and they have their reasons, and good for them — but they don’t actually really like me enough to attend my funeral.”
She doesn’t want them there because they feel obligated to come. Instead, she hopes that coming out with her funeral request takes the obligatory pressure off them. Shannen doesn’t want a sad, stuffy funeral but prefers something more like a “lovefest.”
Shannen Doherty claims she hates fake people, so she wants to keep it small and tight for her funeral service. Shannen’s funeral talk saddens some Instagram fans. But by any means, she is not giving up. She wants her wishes known when the time comes, whether tomorrow or 25 years later. This is how she wants things done. So, if you are blackballed from Shannen Doherty’s VIP funeral guest list, now you know why.
