Jared Fields is doing his best to try to justify the ableist slur he used on Big Brother 25. As many of you probably recall, Jared used the R-word during a livestream and it justifiably left a lot of people disgusted. Furthermore, a different contestant named Nathan had used a slur as well and was immediately booted from the house. So why is one person held accountable and another not held accountable at all?
People have also been waiting to see how Jared explains it away as opposed to just owning it and apologizing. Well, the apology tour has begun. but it is decidedly lacking an actual apology of any kind. One reason people think he got away with it was because he is on the show with Survivor legend, Cirie Fields. Seeing as to how she is his mother, some people think that gave him more leverage to get away with things. So, what is Jared saying about the whole ordeal? How does Jared justify him using ableist slurs so casually?
Big Brother 25’s Jared Fields Tries and Fails To Justify Ableist Slur
Speaking with Parade about the whole thing, Jared said:
disabilities are something that I would never use to my advantage inside of his game or outside of his game. I still do understand intent versus impact, regardless of what I intended to say. And I know that it’s something every day moving forward that I need to work on to make sure that it’s just never excused. And there’s never even a line to be blurred there.

But what people are gleaming from the interview is that he never actually apologizes for what he said. He justifies and does his best to explain himself, but he reads like someone who was mad at being caught. Not someone who is genuinely upset or repentant about what they uttered. It is a disappointing stance to take on something that was utterly unforgivable. We have no room in our lives for ableist slurs, period. How this affects his reality TV career is yet to be seen. Thankfully, he got evicted this week so at lats there’s that.
