Modern Warfare 3 is just around the corner, and fans of the series couldn’t be more excited. Aside from a few hiccups, everything Sledgehammer Games has revealed about the title has been received quite positively. It will play similarly to 2022’s Modern Warfare 2, although there are some noticeable differences between them. Here are some of Modern Warfare 3’s biggest changes you can expect to see this November.
5. Return of Map Voting
In stark contrast to the original Modern Warfare trilogy, map voting was absent from the most recent two MW games. Finally, after plenty of begging from the fans, the feature is making a triumphant return. We have already seen it in action via the MW3 beta, and it is just as great as we remember.
Of course, this unfortunately means that the less popular maps will receive very little playtime, but it is a price that most are willing to play. This is easily one of the most anticipated changes that Modern Warfare 3 is gracing us with.
4. Aftermarket Parts
The gunsmith was a revolutionary change to the Call of Duty formula with its launch in 2019. Now, it is getting a massive upgrade with the introduction of aftermarket parts. This feature unlocks a new customization option that allows players to alter the functionality of a weapon completely.
So far, we’ve seen an LMG converted into a Bullpup, and a Renetti handgun become a full-auto Carbine! Along with the launch of these conversion kits, Sledgehammer Games is also completely re-working gunsmith progression. Hopefully, these changes in Modern Warfare 3 will allow more player freedom.
3. Zombies in Modern Warfare
That’s right – a Modern Warfare title will feature a Zombies game mode for the first time in the franchise’s history. Sledgehammer Games is putting its unique twist on the classic zombies formula. The game mode will take place on the biggest zombie map ever and include mission-based objectives rather than waves.
This is one of the more controversial changes in Modern Warfare 3, as many fans believe a more familiar approach to COD Zombies would be preferable. Although, if it is any consolation, the classic soda perks such as Juggernog and Speed Cola will triumphantly return!
2. Multi-Team Game Modes
There hasn’t been a multi-team game mode in a Call of Duty game since 2012, but Modern Warfare 3 is set to change that. It comes in the form of a game mode called Cutthroat, and Sledgehammer Games has called it a “competitive 3v3v3 experience.”
“For 1v1 and 2v2 fans, Cutthroat will feel familiar with the round-based elimination format and intense close-quarters. It’s 3v3v3 with custom Loadouts, a moving flag, and 3-way firefights,” the Call of Duty said on Twitter. In other words, think of it as a mini battle royale, and you will not be disappointed.
1. Game-Changing New Perks + Perk Systems
As of late, Call of Duty has been hesitant to introduce compelling perks. However, they seem to have thrown that out the window this time. Several of the new perks coming to Modern Warfare 3 seem to be incredibly dominant.
Climbing Boots, for example, is a new perk that almost doubles the speed at which a player can mantle and ready their gun. This will almost certainly become part of the upcoming meta. Furthermore, knee pads greatly increase sliding speed/distance, and the conduction headset magnifies enemy footsteps while muffling combat noise. Thankfully, these busted new perks are available to everyone. Perhaps this warrants a call back to the age-old saying, “If everyone’s special, then no one is.”
The perk system is also getting completely overhauled. This time, players will suit up their operator with vests, gloves, and boots, each with unique abilities that operate similarly to perks. This also means that your perks will be available from the start of each match rather than forcing you to unlock them as the match progresses. This is a welcomed change.
Modern Warfare 3 launches November 10th, 2023.
