Some people harass immigrants, even when they are legal citizens, feeling entitled to do so. Unfortunately, the current administration has, in many ways, allowed this behavior to go unchecked. A recent incident in Florida highlights this problem. A woman, widely described as a “Karen,” stopped her car in front of an American couple and approached them aggressively. She didn’t just question their origins; she even tried to open their car door. The couple stayed inside as the man repeatedly told her to go home. Despite cars honking around them, she refused to back off.
The Florida Karen seemed to be enjoying her behavior because she had an obnoxious smile on her face. The couple again asked her to go and even told her that they would call the police, but she didn’t care. The poor woman had to tell the Karen that she was from Boca Raton because of how she kept asking them where they were from. The Karen then kept repeating the same question while the woman tried to calm down her partner. At one point, he answered her question and said, “I’m from your mother.” This is an appropriate way to handle someone who is acting like this. “Go home,” the Karen began yelling several times, and then announced that she was born in America. So were they?
When the man started getting out of the car to confront her, his partner begged him to stay. Thankfully, another driver who was witnessing this unfortunate situation stepped up to the woman. He made her back up to her car and apparently was asking her to leave. This made the man thank him for standing up to them. By the end of the video, two guards came up to her. The Florida woman was in disbelief that this happened to her. This is why she wrote in her caption, “This is the new America! I’m an American Citizen born and raised here. This woman tried to open my car door and asked me what country I was from, and to go back home. I guess I’m not white enough for this country anymore.”
People Reacting to the Xenophobic Florida Karen’s Behavior
People were absolutely furious after seeing what the Florida Karen did. They rightly found it unacceptable to harass someone like this, and many wanted the woman to face consequences. “Some people really need to be maced,” one person wrote. Another person applauded the couple for not escalating the situation as they said, “You two have a lot more control than I do.” One TikTok user also wanted to expose the Karen’s identity by saying, “We gotta make Mamaw famous. Who is she internet?!?!” Someone else found it weird that xenophobes would pretend to be afraid of immigrants only to be the ones who harass them. “I’ll never understand how their motivation is the ‘scary stranger’ yet they try to open the door, aggressively approach and are always instigators,” they said.
Some comments tried to look at the only positive thing in this situation, and that was how the other driver stood up against the Florida Karen. “The way that guy charged her,” one person wrote. She wasn’t that brave then. Another person said, “The guy who chased her away needs some recognition.” Someone else commented, “The guy who stepped did what every white person should be doing! I’m so glad he was there. And I’m SO sorry that this is how you were treated.” The rise of racism in America also made some Canadians grateful for their country, as one citizen said, “I can’t believe this . I swear racism LOOKS like a MENTAL HEALTH DISEASE . Sending you my love ‼‼ I would lose it . I’m grateful I don’t see this where I am in Canada . I’d lose my mind.” No one would want to witness racism anywhere.
