All eyes are on BioWare after their latest release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Reviews are now out and the common verdict is that the game has shied away from its usual dark fantasy tones and tropes. This has worried some sci-fi RPG fans that Mass Effect 5 might follow suit. However, Michael Gamble, BioWare Executive Producer has assured fans that Mass Effect 5 will remain true to the deep darkness of its space.
Michael Gamble took to Twitter/X and announced his answers to people who kept asking him about Mass Effect now that Dragon Age: Veilguard is nearly out. This was his tweet:
To sum it up, “Mass Effect is Mass Effect“. Based on Gamble’s tweet, Dragon Age: The Veilguard‘s reception should not affect the sci-fi RPG’s creative direction. Additionally, Gamble clarified that Mass Effect will remain true to its more serious and more mature themes in a reply.
“Regarding tone questions: Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I’m gonna say for now,” as per Gamble’s follow-up.
Granted, Mass Effect 5 likely won’t happen or be released until several years later. The game is still currently in development. Even so, an older announcement from BioWare has claimed that Mass Effect 5 is being spearheaded by old Mass Effect trilogy veteran developers. That ought to be more than enough assurance for any worried Mass Effect fan regarding tonal shifts.
It’s worth noting that the last Mass Effect game, Mass Effect Andromeda was poorly received for its lackluster writing and comical facial animations. Moreover, it was a departure from the Shepard saga. He/she was a character who has served as the icon of Mass Effect for a decade. Sadly, all that’s left is to wait for further announcements and teasers from BioWare.
