Black Panther has successfully hit a new milestone by making over $1 billion across global box office. The film made $49 million in its first two days of release in China alone.
The Marvel film is the ninth highest grossing film which comes to no surprise as the film is standalone. Black Panther hit the milestone in just 26 days. UK box office figures show that Black Panther is doing better than Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America as it earned £35.4m in its first three weeks.
The film was released February 16, 2018, and it is unknown how much Black Panther will gross overall. Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has already announced a sequel to Black Panther saying that, “We absolutely will do that”, but details are yet to be confirmed. The Marvel Studios have already come up with ideas for the next sequel, “There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first ‘Black Panther.’ We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.”
Kendrick Lamar, a popular rapper, has spoken of interest in playing a villain in the sequel. He has said it would be fun to play the misunderstood character and that he would play “Killmonger for sure.”
The film revolves around T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to become the next leader of the African nation. The nation is secluded with advanced technology that can heal many people quickly. An old enemy comes back to haunt him and he is faced with challenges that will change the course of the nation.
