It’s pretty normal to want to exchange something after buying it, especially when the store allows that. This is why a Black New Jersey woman went to the Lululemon branch in American Dream to exchange some pants for a different size. Apparently, one of the employees there was rude to her, so she started talking to a higher-up and filming the situation. For some reason, the new employee who was now talking to her claimed that they couldn’t exchange the product because she bought it from a branch in Louisiana. That doesn’t even make sense. He then used the words “the person you bought it from in Louisiana,” which made her believe that he was acting as if she didn’t buy it from an official store.
The New Jersey woman then asked if the employee was telling her to go back to Louisiana to exchange her clothes and he told her yes. She then wrote in disbelief, “You’re American Dream staff is Immature, Unprofessional and Unaware of your own store policies. First they refused to exchange my pants for a different size… THE SAME Exact pants… then went on to say they can’t exchange at all because I purchased it in Louisiana! You a country wide brand. Why would I need to go back to a place I visited to do an exchange? This is INSANE!”
In a second video, the customer showed how another employee, this time a female, came over to tell her not to record them. The employee then asked her to leave the store. “It’s a free country,” the customer said. The employee once again told her that she wasn’t allowed to record and then proceeded to call security. While talking to the customer, she mockingly smiled at her too. The customer then informed them that she was recording for her safety and that she would send the video to corporate. She also asked for their names which they provided. The employee also shook her head and told the woman that if she wasn’t so “rude,” they would have helped her. Now, comments are pouring in on Lululemon’s videos, but the company has remained silent so far.
People Reacting to What Happened to the New Jersey Woman
Since the New Jersey woman is Black, several people believed that the employees treated her like this because of her race. This is why one person said, “He thinks it stolen. They need to stop profiling people.” A lot of people disagreed with this, including another person who replied, “And this is what is wrong with the world you’re just assuming he’s a racist That’s why the word is such a joke nowadays and nobody takes it serious. He literally had the receipt in his hand. He did not think she stole it.” Many Black people still believed that what happened was discrimination as one woman said, “Stop buying from companies that don’t respect us.” Someone else wrote, “He’s discriminating and will be fired.”
Others ignored the New Jersey woman’s race and focused on the weird exchange policy the employees talked about. “So I’m confused Louisiana is not part of the USA now? Lol,” one woman asked. Another woman also said, “No way I returned a transaction from lululemon in California in nyc and it wasn’t a problem.” Even a previous Lululemon employee said that this wasn’t a real policy. “I used to work there and that’s not even a real reason. If you bought them from New York u can return them in Hawaii it didn’t matter as long as it’s in the US. I would follow up with corporate and tell them what happened,” she wrote. Regardless of whether the policy is real, the lack of response from the company reflects poorly on them.
