Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was billed as a spiritual successor to PlayStation classic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night when it was released last year. Given that Bloodstained was made by members of the team that made Symphony of The Night expectations were high for the game. Bloodstained ultimately found a following among fans of the Metroidvania genre in large part due to what the game added to the formula. According to a recent announcement from 505 Games, Bloodstainedโ€™s publisher, that following amounts to over a million people.

The announcement of the milestone in sales figures was not the only news about Bloodstained from 505 either. Due to the Kickstarter for the game passing its final stretch goal of $5.5 million the new Boss Revenge Mode will be added to the game in July this year. The new mode will be a traditional Boss Rush featuring four of the bosses from the game. Also, this July a Chroma Wheel for customizing the skin, hair, and clothing coloration of the main character will be coming to Bloodstained.

These two bits of DLC are the first of a year of new content for Bloodstained. Some highlights of the new content include a Vs. Mode, a 16bit Demake Mode, and a new playable character. There will also be a Chaos Mode which has yet to be revealed as well as crossover content with unannounced intellectual properties.

Bloodstained was made under the supervision of Koji Igarashi who is famous for his work on the Castlevania series. Bloodstained is a much wilder and more over-the-top than any of those games. Some diehard fans of Castlevania were put off by the games bombastic style. Overall the way the game rewards players for searching out every last secret won over more fans than it lost.

The new DLC announcement is a good reminder for those who slept on Bloodstained to give it a try. What’s the wildest build you’ve found in Bloodstained?
