Season 2 of The Bear featured all sorts of big-timer actors, including a guest appearance from Bob Odenkirk. He joined Jamie Lee Curtis, Jon Bernthal, and other guests in episode 6, Fishes, which flashbacked to a family Christmas dinner gone wrong. Getting to play Uncle Lee, a character mentioned throughout the series, was “the greatest experience since” Better Call Saul, according to the actor. In a new interview, he looked back on his time on that set for one of the wildest episodes of the sophomore season.

In an interview with Deadline, Bob Odenkirk got the opportunity to open up about what it was like being on the set of The Bear. It was so positive that he ranked it next to the time spent reprising his Breaking Bad role for Better Call Saul. He got to work closely with mainstays Jeremy Allen White (Carmy), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Richie), Abby Elliot (Natalie “Sugar”), and Matty Matheson (Neil Fak). The actor also got to work with other guests, including Lee Curtis (Donna), Bernthal (Michael), Gillian Jacobs (Tiffany), John Mullany (Stevie), and Sarah Paulson (Michelle). That time with the cast and crew, the Nobody star had nothing but praise.
“Everybody was there to kick a–, to play. Everyone respected each other, every one of those actors, and [creator] Chris Storer runs a set that allows freedom to Discover, and invent, and bring things to life. Jeremy Allen White just sets a ton of professionalism and respect between everyone, and it’s that great thing of, we all want the other person to kick a–.”
Uncle Lee was not the actual uncle of any of the cast. Oftentimes in the series, the term uncle was often used as an honorary title, similar to how characters would call Richie cousin. We don’t know much about him besides filling in the space of the reveal that he was one of the people that Carmy (Allen White) used to fund the revamped version of his restaurant. The gaps left open lead to a possible return if we get a third season, whether he comes into the present or for another flashback.
The second season of The Bear was filled with other guest roles beyond Bob Odenkirk. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 star Will Poulter made a surprising cameo in episode four, Honeydew. Oscar-winner Olivia Colman also had an appearance in episode seven, Forks.
You can see Bob Odenkirk have his dramatic and often antagonistic moments with the cast in The Bear season 2. Every episode is available on Hulu.
