Boom Studio’s Grim #1 Sells Out

Boom Studio’s Grim #1 has officially sold out at the distributor level. Per Bleedingcool, the publisher will go back to press immediately. However, the second printing will be getting a new cover from series artist Flaviano. Grim #1 is hitting shelves next week and is from the creative team of Stephanie Phillips, Flaviano, Rico Renzi, and Tom Napolitano.

So, Boom Studio’s Grim is Doing Well?

Before selling out this week, Grim is already proving a success for Boom Studios. The series is already the publisher’s highest ordered creator-owned launch of the year. With over 75,000 copies ordered, it is on track to be a breakout hit. It follows Boom’s other popular titles, Something Is Killing the Children and The Many Deaths of Laila Starr. If this new series follows the footsteps of these others, then a third printing is in Grim’s future.

As Bleedingcool points out, early signs on eBay show that grabbing a variant of Grim may prove difficult. Currently, several copies of the Jenny Prison 1-in-100 variant are going for upwards of $150 on the auction site. Similarly, the Jae Lee 1-in-75 variant is seeing prices as high as $100. Of course, there aren’t many copies on the site just yet, but that will likely change after the official release.

What is the Series About?

Acclaimed writer Stephanie Phillips is handling this story about a young woman with a rather interesting job. The series follows Jessica Harrow, a young woman who has just died but does not remember how. As she tries to unravel the mystery of her own death, she is given a new job in the afterlife; a Grim Reaper. Now, she will have to solve her own death while ferrying souls into the afterlife. Plus, if she is the new Grim Reaper, where is the old one?

Series artist Flaviano joins Phillips on this haunting adventure. Colorist Rico Renzi and letterer Tom Napolitano are also on board for this new series. Plus, several artists contribute to the variant covers for Grim #1. They include Jenny Prison, Mike Del Mundo, Dave Johnson, and more. Issue 1 hits shelves on May 11.
