Following weeks of uncertainty and chaos in Minnesota, things are finally moving in a direction, but only time will tell if it’s the right one. Recent news shows that President Trump spoke on behalf of ICE operations in Minnesota. Allegedly, he’s looking to pull agents out of the state. There is also the possibility of Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino himself going back to his previous position in California. Though the news is still fresh on the matter, it certainly leaves many of us with hope for Minnesota’s future.
A YouTube video shared by @CBSChicago tells all. A newscaster shares, “Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino is leaving the city as soon as tomorrow. Border Czar Tom Homan is taking over ICE operations on the ground.” He shares that this comes after backlash surrounding Alex Pretti’s death at the hands of ICE agents. For weeks, Governor Tim Walz has been demanding that Trump remove operations from the state of Minnesota.
According to CBS, Walz spoke with Trump today, and they had what he said was a “productive” conversation. Walz stated that he and Trump were on a similar “wavelength” with what needs to happen to remove ICE from the state once and for all. Greg Bovino will allegedly leave Minnesota, as well as a large number of ICE agents, but only time will tell just how many leave the state as ordered. Trump was quoted as saying that he agrees “the present situation cannot continue.” The pressure is certainly on to ensure the safety of Minnesota residents following violent outcomes at the hands of agents.
Walz also said that President Trump is going to hold the reins on an “investigation” into Pretti’s death. This is necessary, seeing as news outlets are reporting conflicting information at the present time. Trump’s Administration called this a “demand for the resistance and chaos to end today.” On top of these actions, state Democrats have been threatening to hold back DHS funding if there isn’t immediate ICE reform.
One commenter shared, “This is not enough! All of those men that participated in the death of Alex Pretti should immediately be removed from ICE, and not permitted to return, until this investigation is complete. What BS is this! Walz should insist that they be removed from duty.” At this point, we can only wait and see what the future holds.
