Borderlands 4 Director Will ‘Cry Real Tears’ If He Sees ‘Skibidi’ and a ‘Hawk 2A’ Gun in Upcoming Sequel

Toilet only, no Skibidi

Borderlands is generally known for its wacky and crass humor, but even so, there are certain lines that its creators won’t cross. Apparently, Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang like ‘skibidi’ are off the table and aren’t welcome in Borderlands 4, something that might have crossed some fans’ minds. After all, some Borderlands fans are getting younger and the franchise loves its parodies.

The assurance that Borderlands 4 won’t have some of the most ubiquitous youthful slang came from the upcoming sequel’s narrative director himself. Sam Winkler held a bit of a Q&A recently where some journalists and content creators were able to ask him about the upcoming game.

Iโ€™m not gonna say thereโ€™s no toilets but if the word skibidi ships in the game under my watch Iโ€™m gonna cry real tears. Paul Tassi joked that we were gonna have a gun called Hawk 2A and a fellow dev asked me if it was real and I wanted to put my hand down the sink grinder

According to Winkler, Borderlands 4 will be Gearbox Software’s most ambitious game yet. However, some critics inquired about the trailers’ rather dark and more serious vibe, especially when compared to the older Borderlands trailers. Content creator Moxsy was somewhat worried that the upcoming sequel might not include its signature toilet humor.

To that, Sam Winkler replied that there would still be toilet humor present in the game. With that said, Winkler draws the line against Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang, stating a distaste for the word ‘skibidi’. Even a gun jokingly called ‘Hawk 2A’ is also off the table.

Winkler seems intent on keeping the contemporary brain rot off of Borderlands 4. So you’ll only be seeing genuine toilet humor in the game if Winkler’s words are anything to go by. I can’t believe I just defended toilet humor, oh the times we live in.

Borderlands 4 is Going to be Significant for the Franchise

It’s worth noting that Sam Winkler was involved in Borderlands 3‘s writing and was even the co-lead writer for the game. Borderlands 3 notably toyed with the notion of YouTubers and influencers as villains, something some of the fans pointed out in the X thread.

Borderlands 4, meanwhile, has a lot riding on its shoulders after the franchise’s failed foray into the film medium.

Does Borderlands Have a Post-Credits Scene?

The Borderlands movie is quite possibly the worst film of 2024 and even our review agrees with the general sentiment.

It’s not clear yet what Sam Winkler and the Borderlands 4 development team are cooking up, but it likely won’t go down the Skibidi Toilet route.
