Oklahoma actor Brad Pitt is facing another major family development after his daughter Zahara dropped his last name.
Page Six reported that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara has officially changed her name. According to court documents obtained by the publication, a Los Angeles judge granted the 21-year-old’s petition to legally change her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie.
It was reported that there were no objections to the name change. “The Decree is signed and filed. The Petitioner’s name is changed from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie,” the order stated. Zahara’s decision has also led to conflicting reports from sources close to Pitt and Jolie.
A source close to Pitt told Page Six, “This is the latest installment in what complete and total alienation looks like with an extra topping of trying to deflect attention from their ex’s success. Anyone who has actually been a part of this for the last ten years would know that there’s only one side that talks about and has tried to weaponize the kids.”
In response, a source close to Jolie said, “Today’s hearing was required by law and scheduled months ago by the L.A. court system. It’s a new low to have his camp to spin a conspiracy theory, disavow responsibility for his conduct, and attack his own child. Keep in mind, his daughter has had the grace not to discuss the details of his behavior in public.”
It Happened Before
Other children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have also taken steps to distance themselves from the actor’s surname. Shiloh became the first to legally remove “Pitt” from her name after a judge approved her request in August 2024, changing her name from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie. Maddox later followed, with a judge approving his petition in September 2026 and changing his name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie.
Meanwhile, Vivienne has also taken steps to drop the surname, having been publicly credited as Vivienne Jolie in The Outsiders Playbill and filing her own legal name-change petition after turning 18. Her hearing is scheduled for November 2026. Zahara had also been publicly using Jolie before her recent court-approved name change.
Fans have also speculated that the children’s decisions to distance themselves from Pitt’s surname may be connected to the long-running issues between the actor and Jolie. The former couple’s contentious split and years of legal disputes have remained in the public eye, leading some fans to interpret the children’s choices as reflecting their relationships with their father. However, the reasons behind each child’s decision have not been fully disclosed publicly, making it unclear whether their name changes are directly connected to the former couple’s disputes.
Fans Criticize Oklahoma Actor’s Daughter Over Name Removal
Many fans began criticizing Oklahoma actor Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara after she dropped his surname, with some making assumptions about the reason behind her decision. “Angelina Jolie has brainwashed all the kids against him,” one person wrote. Another person said, “Idk the details but what a tragedy. Brad Pitt is a national treasure.”
Others also criticized Jolie, with some commenters speculating about her influence on the children’s decisions. “his ex brainwashing his children is really something else,” one person wrote. Another person said, “You have to wonder if Pitt is really that bad or Angelina is filling the kids heads with [expletive].” Someone else commented, “If I adopted someone or that was my child and they did this I would not care good bye forever.”
The news also brought attention to how family issues involving celebrities often become a subject of public scrutiny. It also led some fans to question whether Pitt’s own actions played a role in his children choosing to distance themselves from his surname, although the reasons behind their individual decisions have not been publicly established.
