Breaking Bad is highly regarded as one of the greatest television shows of all time. The groundbreaking series — centered around the erratic Walter White — also features a strong cast of mercurial characters. Each character embarks on a wayward journey of their own, including unimaginable hardships and tough decisions. As such, some Breaking Bad characters were unwaveringly despised by the neo-Western’s passionate fanbase. While some characters aren’t necessarily evil by definition, they still secure a spot on this list because of how hated they are. Let’s take a look at Breaking Bad’s most hated characters, ranked by their evilness.
8. Gretchen & Elliott Schwartz
In Breaking Bad, Gretchen and Elliot are purposely portrayed as the villains in Walt’s mind. As viewers, the fans experience Walt’s point of view, which further pushes the theory that the Schwartz have an evil agenda. However, they initially tried to help Walt by paying for his cancer treatment and offering him a job at Gray Matter Technologies. Walt decides to turn down both offers and convinces himself that Gretchen and Elliot are the true villains.
Despite their obvious rich fortune and better-than-you mentality, the couple is not evil in the slightest. They go out of their way to help Walt, though he flat-out refuses their financial resources. Their hatred from fans is completely unwarranted, though that’s exactly the image that’s painted out to be.
7. Victor
As an early henchman for Gus Fring, fans had plenty of time to form their own opinions about Victor. Overall, his mere existence seemed to aggravate many. In season 4’s opener, Fring slits Victor’s throat wide open, even after proving that he studied Walter’s cooking strategy. As Walt specifically references in a season 5 episode, Victor flew directly too close to the sun when it came to Gustavo Fring’s terms.
Many fans believe his “macho” personality and over-confidence in himself wound up being his timely demise. However, Victor wasn’t necessarily an evil character, just a complete yes-man for Fring. As such, Victor ranks as one of the most hated Breaking Bad characters, though sits at the bottom for evilness.
6. Ted Beneke
While Ted was an outright liar and fabricator of business, he wasn’t an evil presence in the show. However, diehard Breaking Bad fans certainly hated Ted for his complete lack of forward-thinking. In addition, his willingness to break up Skyler White’s marriage. Most of the fans’ aggravation for Ted Beneke stems from his stubborn nature, including the subplot where he refuses to pay his owed taxes to the IRS.
His story comes to an emphatic end when a freak accident puts him in the hospital. Therefore, his relationship with Skyler is ruined for good. As such, his overall hatred guarantees him a well-deserved spot in this lineup, though there are fairly more evil people in front of him.
5. Marie Schrader
Marie was far from a fan favorite in Vince Gilligan’s crime-drama masterpiece. As the wife of a DEA Agent, Marie constantly inserted herself into situations that had absolutely zero to do with her. As such, her presence didn’t sit well with many diehard fans of the popular show. Still, Marie was kind-hearted deep down, and surely only wanted the best for her family.
However, her overbearing personality isn’t what ranks her higher up on the evil scale. Rather, it’s her genuine hatred for brother-in-law during the show’s final season. Marie blatantly encourages Walt to take his own life as an act of mercy for the rest of the family. As such, she ranks as one of Breaking Bad’s most hated characters, with a fair touch of evil.
4. Skyler White
Skyler White was and still is unwaveringly hated by a strong portion of the Breaking Bad fanbase. Criticized for the insistent nagging of her husband’s secret tactics, Skyler’s name has been tossed through the land of turmoil. Many fans believe that Skyler purposely interjected herself far too much in Walt’s life, even though she certainly had every right to do so.
However, some of her hate isn’t completely unwarranted. As the seasons progress, Skyler’s hands arguably become just as dirty as her husband’s. She eventually threatens Ted, her former boss, and lover, which lands him in the hospital. At one point, she even suggests that Walt kill Jesse Pinkman to keep him quiet. While Skyler isn’t the evilest character in Breaking Bad, her name isn’t clear when it comes to the collection of bad deeds in the show.
3. Lydia Rodarte-Quayle
Despite not showing up until the show’s final season, Lydia made a major impact as one of Breaking Bad’s most hated characters. Early in the fifth season, it is revealed that Lydia was a key chess piece in the supply chain for Gustavo Fring’s operation. After Gus’ death, Lydia makes contact with Walt through Mike, where the two begin to work together.
While Lydia doesn’t appear evil, her true darkness rests within. At one point, she tries to have Mike killed. Many fans hate Lydia for her undermining ways, and her need to get whatever she wants by any means necessary. No matter the reason, Lydia is an evil threat, and a secret force to be reckoned with.
2. Jack Welker
As if being a Nazi wasn’t bad enough, Jack Welker fully solidifies himself as an evil figure when he kills Hank Schrader. Following Hank’s execution, Jack and his gang proceed to steal most of Walt’s buried drug money. To add, Jack directly leads a white supremacist gang, and keeps Jesse Pinkman as a prisoner, and forces him to continue cooking meth.
Uncle Jack is evil and relentless, as well as are the people that he proudly aligns himself with. Partnered up with his nephew Todd, and the duo is seemingly unstoppable and downright evil.
1. Todd Alquist
When it comes to severely hated Breaking Bad characters, Todd sits at the top of the list. With no signs of remorse, Todd fatally shoots a teenage boy after he witnesses a train robbery. To further aggravate fans, the murder barely seems to bother him. Furthermore, he brutally shoots Andrea in front of Jesse Pinkman to teach him a lesson. Cold and calculated, Todd displays clear signs of sociopathy with his zero empathy or remorse for his actions.
His general unpleasantness and creepiness leave a sour taste for his character. His actions prove to be unforgivable and chaotic, where he willingly kills people just for the sake of doing so. Even though Jesse gets his revenge in the end, many Breaking Bad fans harbor an intense hatred for Todd.
