Given the way that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild rejuvenated the Zelda series and offered an immersive open-world experience like none other, it’s no secret why fans are eagerly anticipating the game’s sequel.

And now, thanks to the loose lips of a pair of Spanish voice actors, we may have some idea of how far along development on the game actually is.

In a podcast for the website Gamereactor, Spanish voice actors Marc Navarro (Revali) and Nerea Alfonso (Zelda) revealed that they’d completed the voice acting for their respective characters. However, the pair quickly questioned as to whether they should have revealed this.

After all, this is really the first big piece of BotW2 news received since the E3 2019 reveal. It’s pointed out by VGC that localized voice acting is often one of the final tasks for a game’s audio department. So, perhaps the game is further along than first realized. Nintendo have been very tight-lipped about it so far.

Breath of the Wild 2

Breath of the Wild 2 was conceived when the team behind BotW 1 realized they had too many DLC ideas to properly implement into the game. It will continue to build upon its predecessor’s world and add some new gameplay elements into the mix.

“When we released the DLC for Breath of the Wild, we realized that this is a great way to add more elements to the same world. But when it comes down to technical things, DLC is pretty much data–you’re adding data to a preexisting title,” Zelda producer Eiji Anouma told Kotaku in 2019, “And so when we wanted to add bigger changes, DLC is not enough, and that’s why we thought maybe a sequel would be a good fit.”
