A Tennessee creator was out for a jog when a police chase unfolded right in front of him, with a fleeing man making a run for it before clearing a fence. Viewers of the clip mostly praised the suspect’s athleticism instead of asking why he was running in the first place.
Posted to TikTok by @bassface2112, the video is brief and has no dialogue. We see a man running into frame before easily jumping over a fence and running toward the river. A cop on foot hurries to catch up while another in a police car swings around to ambush the man.
A news report on the arrest of the man allegedly seen in the video adds more context. It says officers spotted Deangelo Bland, 26, after a traffic stop. According to the report, he jumped out of a Dodge Charger and ran. The chase ended when he suddenly stopped. The pursuing officer then fired a Taser six times before Bland was taken into custody.
The Internet Saw an Olympic Moment
The man’s vertical jump was what most commenters couldn’t get over. “The way he jumped that fence can we get him a scholarship for hurdles?” one wrote. Another said, “Bro needs to be in the Olympics.” A third called it a great jump and admitted they thought he might actually get away.
Others had questions about the man’s overall escape plan. “Where did bruh think he was gon run to tho?? The river?” a commenter asked. Someone joked about whether the man thought he was about to “walk on water.“
The Tennessee creator earned plenty of credit for his cinematography skills. “Cameraman had one job. Which he did flawlessly!” one viewer said.
Memphis itself became a talking point. “My city my city u can’t help but love we definitely not a real place,” a local commenter offered. One person said the city is terrible for raising a family and mentioned moving away. Someone else asked, “Wait, what do you have to do to actually get arrested in Memphis. That place is lawless.“
Most viewers had no interest in why the man was being arrested or what crime he may have been connected to. That makes it feel like one of those internet moments where everyone can laugh at the fence jump and the perfectly timed soundtrack while completely losing the plot.
