The 67-year-old Die Hard star has been diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia, also known as FTD. Bruce Willis was diagnosed with aphasia before the FTD diagnosis. The retired actor’s family announced the news on Thursday.
Demi Moore, Bruce’s ex-wife shared a statement on a website for the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration on her Instagram page. The statement read that challenges with communication are just one of the symptoms of the disease the actor has been diagnosed with. This is not an easy feat, but the statement read that it is a relief to now have a clear diagnosis. Getting the diagnosis of FTD can take years, so it is good that the Death Wish actor Bruce Willis has been diagnosed early.
According to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), the disease’s progression varies. It can go from two to more than 20 years. Also, the average life expectancy after the symptoms starts is seven to 13 years. There is no cure or treatment that is currently available for the disease either.
