We’ve probably all played it by now, If you haven’t you’ve probably seen the many t-shirts and memes going round the internet with the famous lines ‘That wizard came from the moon’ well no longer will you be having Peter Dinklage as your trusty AI ghost in Destiny as all of his content has been replaced by gaming Veteran Nolan Norths voice expertise.
You can argue that Peter Dinklage did a good enough job voicing the ghost but then he also came under a lot of scrutiny saying that his vocals lacked any kind of passion or urgency, just another famous actor getting his first job in a huge game and new franchise and doing a half arsed job to boot.
But the real reason for Bungie replacing his voice work wasn’t because they were dissatisfied but due to him being less available to work when Bungie needed him.
Executive producer Mark Noseworthy told Game Informer it was
“Hollywood nonsense” that led to Dinklage’s departure. North, a prolific video game voice actor, is a better fit because “this is his thing.
“You can just call him up and say, ‘Hey, next week we’re doing this internal playtest and it would be great to get some Ghost dialogue in there,'” Noseworthy said. “And he’s available.”
Nolan North will be going the game when the new expansion ‘The Taken King’ releases this September. The new expansion will see the ghost take more of an important role in the main story and as a lore giver letting you scan surrounding locations to tell you more about the story.
The new expansion will put more focus on story and interaction between characters involving more cutscenes, something the original game lacked in, it was fun, the shooting was solid but it did just seem to me as ‘take your ghost over there, kill them, scan that, fly away’ so hopefully Bungie brings some of that much needed ‘Halo’ magic to the game as a lot of hype has been put on this new expansion, much more so than any other DLC drop.
The Taken King will be kicking off Destiny’s year 2.
Lets just hope we don’t have to read grimoire cards this time round to understand what’s going on.
