Being a person of color in a mostly white neighborhood can be incredibly scary in our modern times. There are so many instances of racism taken way too far, leading to violent and terrifying acts. This is especially true when police are ultimately called to the scene. For one black man in California, he was feeling racism at its scariest when a white boomer followed him in his vehicle. The worst part? The black male was just trying to work, and the boomer decided to ruin his entire day.
TikToker @crownmerii3 posted a video showing what went down when her cousin was on the job and was profiled and then followed by a white male. In the video, you can see her cousin recording the white boomer in his pickup truck, who has his phone up. The boomer then tells the black male, who is merely working in the area, that “burglaries” have been happening in the area. He continues, “You’re making everyone paranoid. Get the [expletive] out of here.”
The worker continues walking down the road, laughing at the audacity of this racist boomer. However, it becomes even worse when the boomer pulls up next to him in his pickup truck. He asks him, “Where’s your partner?” and even tries to hit the worker with his hands. As the black worker moves out of the way to protect himself, he says, astonished, “Let me get up out of here, man. He’s trying to run me over.”
It’s not clear why the worker has to work through the neighborhood, but he’s wearing a badge showing that he’s there on official work. He decides to get out of the area as quickly as possible before things turn (even more) sour. He continues walking away, but he’s slowly followed by the boomer, who just won’t leave him alone. This is life for a black male trying to simply exist in this neighborhood. He was profiled, accused of being a possible burglar, and was almost assaulted all within ten minutes.
One commenter pointed out the horribly unfortunate reality that black people in America face: “Sad world us black people live in. We can’t even walk around wth.” Another person commented, “’Don’t come close to me’ as he proceeds to follow him.” The hypocrisy and unwarranted fear is unreal. These are the boomers who are watching Fox News and believe that people of color are the world’s problem. It’s time to take a closer look at themselves.
