An article was posted to Reddit about a California Young Republicans group and how they allegedly endorsed a Democrat rather than a Trump-endorsed Republican candidate. This move could very well end up costing the chapter its official standing within the GOP.
Commenters under the post expressed surprise that such a decision was made at all, wondering if anyone bothered to ask the group. Others felt that the group made the best decision for themselves.
The Reddit post above explains that the Madera Young Republicans group endorsed Representative Adam Gray, a Democrat, running for re-election to the US House to represent California’s 13th Congressional District.
According to an X post by the California Young Republicans, the umbrella group that Madera Young Republicans belongs to, “This egregious violation of our constitution and bylaws, which explicitly prohibit member chapters from endorsing Democrat candidates, cannot and will not be tolerated.“
The endorsement comes from a post made by the group, which includes an image of Gray with text that reads, “Madera County Young Republicans Endorse Adam Gray Congressional District 13.” The group’s social media pages have since been taken down, though a screenshot of the post was reuploaded by Politics and Poll Tracker on X.
As a result of this, the chapter faces the beginning stages of disbandment and removal from the organization as a whole. The reasoning behind this decision by the Madera Young Republicans group was not made public.
Concerning the situation, a spokesperson for Representative Adam Gray allegedly emailed a statement to SFGATE that reads, “Congressman Gray welcomes the support of Republicans, Democrats, and independent voters,” the spokesperson said. “The people of the Valley expect their representative to work with anyone when it means making life better for the communities we serve.”
Comments and Reactions Towards California GOP Chapter Potentially Being Shut Down
One commenter under the Reddit post wished that reporters asked why the group made such a decision, writing, “Did the reporters or the state R group think to, I don’t know, ask the local group why they did that?!? Clearly, one can imagine, given boundless idiocy coming from the R’s over the last 10 years. But getting input from the actual group would seem to be relevant to understanding the situation and the real story.“
Others were less surprised at the potential repercussions of such a decision by the Republican group, with another user writing, “Endorsed a Democrat? Well of course they’ll be blacklisted. How dare they vote for the best candidate. Maybe they can be sent to a reeducation camp or something.
Currently, as the information continues to spread online, more people are sharing their opinions on the situation in the comments below.
