A man in Los Angeles, California, approached a woman at a club and showered her with compliments. Moments later, and almost inexplicably, he could be heard becoming more and more hostile toward her. He ended up calling her uneducated and overweight, earning him the internet’s backlash and a proper kick-out.
The brief interaction was shared online by Jemma Durrant. She is a content creator and former reality TV star who often shares food, clothes, makeup, and lifestyle videos online. The clip attached above quickly became one of her biggest, garnering 1.8 million views, 233,100 likes, and more than 2,200 comments.
The California woman was sitting alongside a friend of hers when, right before she hit record, a stranger approached her. The man in question called her friend “pretty sexy” and “really attractive.” He quickly took notice that Jemma was tall. Still, he believed he was taller than her, as he was “like six feet.”
“Stand up, shorty,” the man told Jemma. She responded, “I don’t think you want me to.” Her friend, meanwhile, came to her defense, saying, “She ain’t no shorty.”
Compliments To Insults
After a cut, the man once again repeated his alleged height. Compliments turned to hostility all of a sudden, as the man asked Jemma’s friend if she knew math, adding, “Or are you special ed?“
Shocked, Jemma wondered if the man’s approach was how “guys flirt these days.” She and her friend laughed it off, perhaps refusing to believe that the man had called her uneducated, at best. The man, meanwhile, refused to leave without making a scene.
“I’ll just walk away now,” he said. Jemma and her friend responded in unison, “I think you should.” He continued, “Baby, go back to school,” and then added, “No man wants you because you’re, like, overweight.”
Bewildered, Jemma couldn’t believe the man’s hurtful words. She then followed him to the club, took pictures of him, and got security to kick him out.
Reactions
The video sparked multiple reactions, with the overwhelming majority of viewers bashing the man. One said, “He made a compliment, then straight to competition, and then to insults. Insecure men are a menace.” Another one commented, “The way he just couldn’t handle the rejection. These men are DIABOLICAL.”
Other viewers appeared to have lost faith in humanity. One wrote, “I fear the incel epidemic is everywhere.” Another one added, “The immediate flip to cruel and hateful is disturbing.”
The man’s identity remains a mystery, other than potential initials shared in the comments. By the looks of it, he has a certain reputation, and not the best one, apparently.
