Wonky structural design can most definitely make a simple action or task into a mildly infuriating one. Whether it’s a peculiar motion sensor bathroom sink or a bizarrely placed door, it can be easy to get upset and wonder to the designer responsible, “But why?” That’s exactly what one California man thought when he was attempting to use the shower in the “fancy Airbnb” he rented. Posting a video of the shower knobs on r/mildlyinfuriating, he asked, “How was this designed like this?” The real issue, though, was the obvious fact he didn’t realize about the shower that actually made the situation ‘mildly infuriating.’
The man assumed the longer handle of the lower shower knob was supposed to indicate the water’s temperature, but it was actually the shorter handle that was the indicator. The Airbnb tenant clearly didn’t understand this, so he took apart the bottom knob and even mentioned plans of trying his best to pry off the top to swap them out. The users in the post’s comment section did try to help, with the top comment showing a photo of how the shower handles were supposed to be used.
Yet, the fact that the California man made a fuss about this whole ordeal made people feel quite annoyed, considering how obvious the solution was. “Hey buddy….. it’s upside down. The little nubbin faces up not down,” says one user. A reply claims that this post is probably nothing more than ragebait. “That was my first thought too,” responded another. “Usually I hate rage bait. But if that’s what this was… Honestly… Hats off to them. They just turned rage bait into an artform.”
“What’s mildly infuriating is your puzzle solving skills,” added a third. “You just took this from mildly infuriating to gotcha prank :(,” remarked a fourth. In the end, there’s no indication of whether OP was actually pranking Reddit with this shower knob incident. But one thing’s for sure: many found his reaction and attempt to “fix” what wasn’t broken to be fitting for r/mildlyinfuriating.
