Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag’s four-legged bodyguard is now at the center of a legal battle in California.
The Hills stars are being sued by a former assistant who claims their Dutch Shepherd guard dog attacked him during a routine errand at their Carpinteria home, according to court documents obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, July 14.
In the lawsuit, a man named Cole Gill says he stopped by the couple’s home on November 17, 2025, to pick up a credit card so he could run errands they had assigned him. Gill claims he entered the property lawfully and at the couple’s request when the dog, named Ego, bit into his right thigh.
According to the suit, the bite left puncture wounds and other injuries that resulted in what the filing describes as permanent scarring and emotional trauma. Gill says he has since undergone scar-removal treatment and counseling while also losing income because of the incident.
The former assistant is seeking damages covering his lost wages, medical expenses, and other losses stemming from the alleged attack. Pratt, 42, and Montag, 39, have not publicly responded to the lawsuit, and no court date has been reported.
The case puts an unwanted spotlight on a dog that fans already know well. Ego is no anonymous pet: Pratt and Montag have proudly featured the Dutch Shepherd’s protection training in videos on their social media accounts, showing off the kind of bite work the breed is famous for. Dutch Shepherds are prized by police departments and security professionals precisely because of their power and drive, which is exactly what makes this lawsuit so uncomfortable for the couple.
The timing adds another layer. The reality TV pair has spent the last year and a half rebuilding their lives after their Pacific Palisades home burned to the ground in the January 2025 wildfire that devastated their neighborhood. The couple lost nearly everything in the blaze, and Pratt famously turned the disaster into a comeback story, winning $50,000 for fire recovery efforts on The Weakest Link while Montag’s decades-old pop album rocketed up the charts on a wave of fan support.
Now, instead of closing the book on a brutal stretch, the couple is heading back into a courtroom.
Fans React as Speidi Stays Silent
The TMZ report spread fast on X, where reactions ranged from jokes to calls for caution.
One commenter immediately made the dog the main character: “Guard dog said I’m joining the plot and created a whole courtroom side quest.”
Others urged everyone to pump the brakes: “Allegations are serious, but it’s important to let the facts come out through the legal process before jumping to conclusions.”
And some questioned whether the case belongs in court at all: “Guard dog bite? They go to court for that too?”
Meanwhile, neither Pratt nor Montag has addressed the lawsuit on their famously active social media accounts, a notable silence for two stars who narrate nearly everything online.
For now, Ego’s bite is doing the talking.
