In what appears to be an incident of taking things too far, a California security guard has been arrested for tasing a man directly in the face. The incident took place at Park 101 in Carlsbad on June 24, and details are still scarce today.
The original Instagram clip lacks any audio, so it’s unclear what the man and security personnel were discussing. What is certain is that the security guard opted to tase the man’s face as a first physical move (as mentioned, it’s unclear whether or not there was a verbal warning). Based on the fact that the man was not posing an immediate threat to anyone by brandishing a weapon or physically in someone’s personal space, it seems that the security guard’s use of a stun gun was unjustified.
People took to Reddit’s comments section to offer their own analyses, with quips such as “That guy was power-tripping more than your average cop” and “The lack of remorse is psychopathic.” Others pointed out that the man who was tased should sue, and one person even suggested starting a GoFundMe for the individual.
Many pointed out the irony of the security guard being handcuffed and taken away by law enforcement. One person wrote, “They have the guard in cuffs, and he’s like, ‘Yeah, fair enough, let’s go.’” Another theorized, “I’m willing to bet that security guard has wanted to be a cop his whole life but can’t pass the psych test.“
As of the time of writing, there has been no update on what happened to the security guard after the arrest. The victim did provide an update on his own condition; he is in the hospital and seems to be recovering. Thankfully, he did not lose his eye, which many spectators had been concerned about. Interestingly, Park 101 has yet to comment on the incident.
