Disturbing video captures a California woman in a suspected DUI accident, seemingly fleeing before authorities arrive. Footage from the crash victim is rapidly circulating online, though the identities of both women have not been confirmed.
The one-minute clip, filmed on the side of a highway after the collision has occurred, clearly shows the DUI suspect’s California license plate. At the beginning of the video, the woman who is allegedly intoxicated can be seen wearing a blue blazer, a black and white striped top, and a white pleated skirt, and she opens the footage by holding up her phone and doing a little dance, stating, “Let’s record each other.”
The video then cuts to a few moments later, and sees the victim of the crash ask the California woman, “Why are you drinking and driving?” The suspect denies the allegation and replies, “I’m not. I’m sober, as you can tell me. Want to tell me something? You wanna– You wanna test me?” It’s worth noting that her speech appears slurred, a common sign of someone who has been drinking.
The victim of the crash can smell alcohol on her breath and responds, “I can smell from you.” However, the suspect retorts, “I don’t care. I don’t care.” before the victim says, “Let’s just wait for the cops, please. Let’s just wait for the cops.” Clearly, the authorities have been called and are on their way to the accident.
While they’re waiting for the police to arrive, however, the victim attempts to reason with the DUI suspect. “You shouldn’t be doing that. You know, I have a kid in the car. You shouldn’t be driving.” Moments later, though, the California woman gets into her vehicle, starts her engine, and begins to pull away, seemingly fleeing the scene of the crime, which ends the video.
Unsurprisingly, many have criticized the suspected DUI driver’s reckless and dangerous behavior. On Reddit, one user simply penned, “Not a good look“, while another added in sheer disbelief, “Leaving the scene of an accident!!” A third commenter chimed in with, “Good thing she was recording and has her on video, some DUI drivers will leave the scene of an accident and just be charged with hit and run. They would rather have that then DUI.”
While it’s unclear whether the suspected DUI driver was apprehended by authorities, the clip highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the risks it poses to everyone on the road.
