Public confrontations happen pretty much every day around the globe. However, social media platforms have made videos of these altercations readably accessible for just about anyone. A recently posted TikTok video shows one of these encounters, as a California woman deals with an early-morning Karen. The video has around 550 likes and 4K views, with social media users flaming the older woman in the comments.
Before the TikTok video started, the elderly woman allegedly smiled at the person recording. However, when they did not smile back, the Karen would decide to speak up. The video then starts with the woman recording, sticking up for themselves. The person recording can be heard saying, “You’re about to go viral,” as the Karen shrugs off the threat. In response, the woman claimed she had never been permitted to be filmed like this. Although, since they are in public, the person recording doesn’t seem to need permission to film. This prompts the California TikToker to begin yelling, saying, “You didn’t have permission to talk to me.”

As this little back-and-forth goes on for a few moments, the TikTok comment section is already fed up with this kind of behavior. “Not in public!” laughed one. “You making her famous,” pointed out another. “What’s wrong with people?” asked one more. Finally, the video’s caption read, “Please stop bothering people.” It seems pretty clear that not only the person recording but the comment section as well is just as fed up with this elderly woman as everyone else.
However, the altercation would continue for even longer despite the screaming match. The California woman recording then tells the Karen that “It’s not against the law to not smile back at people.” Yet, the Karen just keeps insisting that recording her is “Against the law.” Finally, the TikToker states, “You don’t have a friendly face to smile back at,” as the altercation continues to heat up.
As this strange run-in finally starts to come to a close, a little more context is also delivered. The Karen allegedly told the woman she “Wasn’t friendly” because she was from the “Bay Area.” This obviously did not sit right with the younger woman, and could even have a little bit of a racist undertone to it. At the end of the day, this was an avoidable confrontation for both individuals. Hopefully, both California women take this as a lesson to mind their own business going forward.
