California Woman Sparks Debate on Beauty Standards and ‘Colorblindness’: ‘The First Original Thought in Years’

True or false?

California Beauty Standards Colorblindness Theory

When it comes to TikTok theories, we’ve seen it all, from really interesting to highly questionable. Today’s theory sits somewhere in between, as the person behind it presents ideas that begin to make sense when considered as a whole. The theory we’re talking about comes from a woman in Los Angeles, California, who claims that men’s beauty standards could be related to colorblindness, especially since this condition affects more men than women.

The theory comes from TikTok user Saraschauer from California, who, in the video, claims she was reading Kassia St. Clair’s The Secret Lives of Color when she realized that colorblindness could affect women’s beauty standards.

She points out that about 1 in 12 men experience some form of colorblindness, compared to roughly 1 in 200 women. From there, she suggests that because colorblind individuals may rely less on color perception, they could pay more attention to texture. This is where her theory takes shape, arguing that if more men are affected, it might influence how some perceive physical features like stretch marks, acne, or cellulite, potentially contributing to certain beauty standards women face today.

Furthermore, she talks about how some men allegedly believe that women are past their prime after their 30s, leading to a loss of “radiance,” or in other words, when some people experience the changes we mentioned above.

While this is certainly another TikTok theory, it has sparked a debate in the comments, with some people backing up the claims of this California TikToker, and a few others thinking it’s not true at all.

This TikTok Theory Has Sparked a Debate

On the one hand, several individuals back these claims, saying it feels like an original thought and isn’t too far-fetched.

“The first original thought in years!!“

“I have a degree in colors & this is blowing my mind.“

Others, however, think that this theory is a bit confusing, as several users are still having a hard time following the woman’s claims.

“I feel like I understood, but didn’t understand at the same time.”

“So your theory is the 1 out of the 12 dictates for the other 11? I’m not getting it.“

Ultimately, this remains a theory, but it has already gone viral, with many people saying the idea resonates. At the same time, others are calling for more evidence and urging the TikToker to explore the topic further, with some even suggesting a deeper dive or formal research.
