Kate Beckinsale has once again proven just how stressful celebrity life can be. The 53-year-old actress, who lives in California, has purged her Instagram account after facing a wave of body-shaming comments, including accusations that her recent weight loss was linked to Ozempic. It also appears the actress not only deleted the specific post that drew criticism, but also wiped her whole Instagram account clean.
Before deleting the posts, however, Beckinsale addressed the criticism on Instagram Stories on August 8, sharing screenshots of comments aimed at her appearance. One commenter wrote, “Loosen up the Ozampic!! You were divine, and now you look anorexic!” Another person bluntly told Beckinsale to “Gain weight,” prompting the actress to explain why comments about her body have been particularly painful.
Beckinsale has previously spoken about living with mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), a condition she said affects her health and digestive system. The California actress also revealed that she has endured several major family losses, including the death of her mother, Judy Loe, in 2025, and her stepfather, Roy Battersby, in 2024.
In a previously shared 13-part video, Beckinsale said she had been receiving comments accusing her of being anorexic or using drugs whenever she posted photographs of herself. She explained that grief and her health struggles had contributed to changes in her weight. She also pushed back against criticism of the video itself, explaining that MCAS flare-ups can cause severe acid reflux and even affect her voice.

The actress was apparently actively replying to these criticisms earlier. “I think people might be broken,” Beckinsale wrote in response to one commenter, after pointing out that she had already explained the circumstances surrounding her weight loss. Eventually, she appeared to signal that she was stepping back from Instagram altogether. Responding to someone who said they preferred her when they had not heard her speak, Beckinsale said she would delete everything except the books she recommends.
Online reactions were sharply divided, but many users defended the actress. “She was really trying to educate and explain her diagnosis,” one commenter wrote, adding that they did not blame Beckinsale for deleting her public profile. Another user said, “Such a lovely woman getting bullied off Instagram. Every day there is new evidence that the internet was a mistake.”
Others shared similar experiences they had online and offline where people were apparently mean for no reason. “Don’t ask me why I don’t talk to anyone anymore and just hang out with my dogs. People are the worst,” claims a Reddit commenter. For Beckinsale, the controversy appears to have become less about defending her appearance and more about escaping a relentless cycle of judgment.
