Call of Duty‘s streak of yearly releases has been going unbroken for more than two decades now, and it surely has had its ups and downs. Not every title is the best, and not every update makes the fans bounce. However, there are some Call of Duty games that feature some of the worst stories and are still considered some of the best in the series. That’s the category that I think Call of Duty 2025 and its “terrible” Campaign might just fall into.
As per the usual trend of Call of Duty’s news every year, we almost always get a glimpse of what’s going to happen in the upcoming title months prior to the release. As for this year, however, it’s all bad news regarding the Campaign, AKA the story mode.
Call of Duty insider TheGhostofHope has proven to be accurate with his info almost every time. And well, he’s not happy with the Call of Duty 2025, or the so-called Black Ops 7 Campaign at all. According to him, people working on Black Ops 6 story mode, which is one of the best in the series, in my opinion, have left Raven Software, and the new team has been focusing on some sort of open-world missions again. Did you hate Open Combat Missions in Modern Warfare III? The leaker says it’s going to be “worse” this year.
Call of Duty 2025‘s story is rumored to take place somewhere between 2030 and 2040, following the Black Ops 2 Campaign with David Mason as one of its main characters. The story will determine which ending was canon in Black Ops 2, and the setting will be semi-futuristic, judging by its timeline and how it fits right before Black Ops 4‘s plot.
Speaking of which, Black Ops 4 did not even feature a Campaign mode, and it’s still considered a good game for its Multiplayer, Zombies, and Blackout modes. The same goes for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, where its twisted Campaign is known to be one of the weakest in showcasing a story that the player cares about, but still, the Zombies and Multiplayer have carried the game to become the best seller in CoD‘s history. Do you see the pattern here?
Treyarch’s work is exemplary with the narratives, I’m not going to confuse anyone here with Black Ops 3 not featuring a good Campaign and Black Ops 4 not including one at all. Black Ops 1, World at War, Black Ops 6, and most significantly, Black Ops 2 are some of the best art painted by the Treyarch developers. However, team T is the one with the best Zombies. They always bring forth a well-balanced Multiplayer mode. And this could mark the fate of Call of Duty 2025 and its spineless Campaign.
If The Campaign Is “Terrible,” What Hope Is Left For Call of Duty 2025?

To answer this question, I first need to remind you of the Zombies leaks from a few months back. The return of the original Zombies crew, chaotic maps in alternate timelines and out in space, and most importantly, a good story that brings iconic characters like Richtofen under the spotlight? Talk about taking my money and giving me Dempsey yelling at me on the headphones, please.
On the other hand, Multiplayer is where almost everyone’s headed once they’re done with the 7-hour Campaign. Now, if they’re bringing back some of the best Black Ops 2 Multiplayer maps like Standoff to Call of Duty 2025, then things should be fine even if the Campaign is a dumpster fire.
What I’m trying to say is that with only 1-2 years to develop, there isn’t much to hope for the Call of Duty 2025 Campaign. All the cutscenes, compelling missions, and gameplay features unique to the story mode take much more time to make compared to a Zombies map. That’s why we might get an amazing co-op mode and competitive Multiplayer like in Black Ops 3 this year, while the Campaign is just nothing to play twice. But in the end, take all rumors with a grain of salt, even if they’re coming from the #1 insider of all time.
