Black Ops 7 is marking the second time that Activision is releasing two titles of the same Call of Duty series in a row with the first one being the MW3 2023. That sounds like another “$70 DLC” for some users, but for me, it’s a matter of adding hundreds of useless guns to the next game.
The habit of adding weapons, blueprints, and operators from the previous Call of Duty titles to another started with Warzone back in 2020. When Black Ops Cold War was released, we got to keep all our Modern Warfare 2019 items with us in Warzone alongside the new content from the fresh CoD release. That went on with Vanguard as well, and then it was reset with Warzone 2.0 which has been going up until now. With a slight rebrand of course.
This tradition was then kicked to the next level with Modern Warfare III, allowing players to carry all their MWII weapons, operators, and blueprints to that game. The end result was a ton of bloatware added to Call of Duty HQ, introducing numerous bugs that were added to the game with every season. Remember MW3 Season 2 when we lost all our progression for 2 days? That.

The previous game’s weapons are worth nothing in terms of power and the new operators are what most of the players go after because of the new finishing moves and bundles. So, why are we adding all this junk to the next game anyway? The only logical reason is that players will get to keep the items they’ve paid for, and well, we’ve got Warzone as a free-to-play game for that. So, to make the new game look truly fresh and unique, I think the carry forward of the 90s weapon to Black Ops 7 set in 2035 is a MW3 repeating mistake.
Now I’m not all grumbles in this one. I do have a solution: Camos. Instead of Blueprints that expire after each game, why not sell camos and make them carry forward to the next Call of Duty titles? That’s less space taken for the HQ and more usefulness because I can put that camo on any weapon my heart desires. On top of that, the weapon mastery camos I’ve ground so hard to earn in one game can be used in the next.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is expected to be released this year sometime in October or November at the latest, and there is no news on the content carried forward for it as of right now.
