Over the last decade, video game file sizes have grown exponentially. Back on Xbox 360 and PS3, you could download the latest Call of Duty and its map pack within a relatively small file size. At the end of the last generation, Call of Duty Ghosts took up less than 50 GBs of hard drive space. Back then we thought that was a lot, but now it feels like a joke compared to current circumstances now. Gamers are lucky if the newest Call of Duty file size takes up less than 80 GBs of space upon the game’s release.
This generation, Call of Duty file sizes have become a burden to Xbox One and PS4 players. Sadly, Xbox One players have felt the effects of the increasing file size worse than their PlayStation 4 counterparts. Instead of strictly downloading and installing the update, Xbox Ones require additional space to be allocated for the download. This additional space means a longer update for Xbox One users.
In preparation for the Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal, Activision has revealed the upcoming game’s file size. According to the Microsoft Store, Black Ops Cold War will take up 100.04 GBs upon release. This file size is currently a place holder, however, we can expect the game to take up over 105 GBS after the day one update. It may not be up to the infamous heights of 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but it’s up there.
