After the rumors of Verdansk getting canceled as part of the Warzone Season 2 content, Call of Duty has put the nail into the coffin by confirming this in a sense. The recent community update for Warzone and Black Ops 6 Season 2 has given everything we need to know about the games’ near future, and it seems like the BR Call of Duty experience isn’t going to get any new map for the next two months.
A Warzone update that polishes the game and solves its issues instead of some extra content that only brings more bugs to the gameplay sounds quite promising. The nature of the every-year reset with Warzone gives the developers little to no breathing room to fix the game, but things are about to change in Season 2.
Instead of new maps, modes, and the huge update we were expecting to see with Warzone Season 2 with the classic Verdansk map returning on the scene, Call of Duty is focusing on its bugs. “This means that in order to deliver meaningful improvements to our players, new content originally planned for Season 02 has been shifted to create bandwidth to address foundational issues.” No wonder they’re releasing a new Zombies map in lightning speed for Season 2, huh?
Several bugs and improvements have been addressed like increasing the reload speed for almost all weapons and fixing the issue with bullet penetration through thick walls. It’s been also mentioned that these changes are not all coming at once, but they’ll be sprinkled into the game throughout the upcoming season. Now the blog post reads like a scroll, so here’s the summary of what’s going on with Warzone Season 2 content and its key changes.
Important Warzone Season 2 Updates
- Verdansk is not coming in Season 2.
- You can turn off the crossplay in the Ranked Play.
- All weapons get a reload speed.
- Sprint to fire speed becomes smoother.
- Bullet penetration adjustment so that you don’t die hiding behind a giant wall for no reason.
- Weapon swap speed gets a %10 increase.
- Semi-auto and burst-firing weapons are removed from ground loot. To hell with you SVD!
- Jumping speed is increased, I have no idea why.
- Parachute cutting animation becomes faster.
- Audio fixes to better hear the players’ actions like footsteps, using ziplines, and opening parachutes.
- Mountaineer perk returns.
- You can’t let go of the enemies while using them as a human shield. AKA you have to kill them.
- Advanced UAVs show elevation arrows; sweet!
- Rebirth Island’s illumination issue where you couldn’t see inside a room is getting fixed.
Now I like these changes, and it might be a hot take but I’d totally appreciate it if they fix the game in return for no new Warzone Season 2 content. However, my main problems with the game right now are the servers and hackers, which I think most of the CoD players would agree on. They have addressed both in the blog post, but there are no signs of server or anti-cheat changes, only fixes. So all we can do now is to wait and see how Warzone Season 2 turns out on January 28, 2025.
