The Spec Ops game mode for Call of Duty Modern Warfare has finally been revealed just a few short weeks from launch with a gameplay trailer (which you can see below). Special Ops continues where the single-player campaign left off, and players will fight in familiar Modern Warfare locations such as Chernobyl. In a press release, Activision said:
Pick up where Campaign concludes and deploy alongside your squadmates to sever a global terror organization’s access to weapons, funds, intelligence, and hardware. Welcome to a deep dive into the world of Modern Warfare’s Special Ops Mode coming to PlayStation® 4, Xbox One® and PC.
Players will undertake missions known as operations. These can be played with up to 4 players, and can be tackled in a variety of different ways. Want to go in all guns blazing? Use one of the military tanks. Rather go in quiet?
Modern Warfare’s Special Ops mode will also include standard missions that can be played alone or with up to 4 players. Infinity Ward describes these missions as ‘a more curated experience’ as compared to the more non-linear experience of operations. At the end of each mission, players will achieve a star rating dependent on how well they completed it. This seems very similar to what was in the previous spec ops mode.
Survival mode is another part of Special Ops for Modern Warfare. Survival is a horde-like mode when players fight off waves of enemies. This will begin with just standard soldiers and as the rounds progress more difficult enemies such as a juggernaut will surface. Spec Ops survival will take place on one of three multiplayer maps, which is a disappointment considering in Modern Warfare 3 all multiplayer maps were available in the mode. Survival mode is exclusive for PS4 until October 1, 2020, where the mode will hit all platforms.
