I’ve always said that the only thing that can kill Call of Duty, is Call of Duty. And with almost every step forward, CoD is taking two steps back these days. Warzone Casuals is where players chill and stay away from all the sweat and SBMM to have some fun playing a game of Call of Duty with their friends. The game is mostly against AI targets, and well, it seems like they’re about to ruin this by adding SBMM bots to Call of Duty: Warzone Season 4 with a skill-based damage system!
In case you have no idea what’s going on, Skill-Based Matchmaking is something that’s been a part of Call of Duty for a very long time now. The system determines your skill and puts you in games with players who are somewhere near or better than you. So if you’re getting lobbies from farther zones outside the server you’re supposed to play on, that’s one of the reasons why.
Generally speaking, this wasn’t a bad shift, unless it makes every game so tough that no one except the best of the best can secure a Warzone victory. The SBMM in CoD has felt a bit tougher with Black Ops 6, and I have to admit, the Season 4 lobbies have been the toughest I’ve ever dealt with. You can easily spot many of them in our recent video on The Nerd Stash YouTube channel.
Now, if you’re not having fun and want to chill out in Warzone, Casual is your go-to. A game mode that’s about to get ruined soon, or that’s what the recent datamining effort by HeyImAlaix suggests.
As you can see in this post, there are codes for skill-based bot difficulties, showing that with every circle, the AI enemies might get tougher to deal with. On top of that, there’s a skill-based damage code that raises my eyebrows even higher. Even the name itself indicates fishy business in the game. The CoD content creators have been talking about a skill-based damage system in the game for a long time now, and to see it’s actually a metric in the game is just, bad. Seriously, I’m out of words.
The only light I see in this is that there are no mentions of the skill-based damage system in the normal matches. If that’s for the bots only, it’s still not getting a pass, but at least I know that I’m not dying to a weaker opponent just because my gun is jammed by the system.
